The Healing Power of

Triple Gong and Mantra

with Shakta, Hari Dev, Tej Karam

Friday - September 11 - 6:30 pm to 8 pm
$16 adv / $20 door  (register)
Come join us for our once-each-month session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra.’ As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, not two, but three, beautiful Paiste gongs! Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!

After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we tune into a different level of intelligence, consciousness and spirit.

Tomorrow our meditation is called, ‘Oneness of Heart.’ It is a special healing meditation that Yogi Bhajan taught on September 11, 2001. We use it tomorrow to heal ourselves and all the places on our planet that need our focus and energy. This is one session of triple gong and mantra not to be missed!

Seating is limited. Pre-registration is best! Click Here to pre-register.
The Power of Change ...

Conference Call Recording Now Available

Kirtan Kriya - The 'Change Maker' Meditation

Last month Shakta held a ‘free’ conference call to learn about and practice the ‘Change Maker’ Meditation. The ‘Change Maker’ meditation is called ‘Kirtan Kriya.’ It uses the primal sounds Sa Ta Na Ma to subtly change any demoting habits and re-confirm promoting habits.

Plus, on this call Shakta shared the results of several important medical studies regarding the effects of ‘Kirtan Kriya’ on the brain. This includes how just 12 minutes a day for 8 weeks can increase memory, slow down mental deterioration and promote overall cognitive health.

You can listen to the ‘Change Maker’ conference call any time of day or night. Click Here to listen.

Yoga & Meditation for
The Subtle Bodies

Shakta Teaching Sunday, Spetember 13
New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse!

10:30 am to Noon
The yogic model of the human being is a vast one. Yogis have unshakable faith in the human being’s almost unlimited capacity for health, healing, energy and vitality. They believe in the capacity of human intuition to give guidance to life. Their goal is the experience and expression of the higher self—the higher physical, mental and spiritual self!

Human beings can reconstitute, renew and refresh themselves with each breath. We are a swirling mix of 8 chakras, 5 tattvas, 3 gunas, 72,000 nadis and 10 bodies.

Come to class this month to:
--learn more about your subtle bodies
--recognize when one or more are out of balance
--bring yourself into alignment whenever you need it!

Drop-in’s welcome. Or, Click Here to pre-register...

Guru Ram Das

the Lord of Miracles

and Spiritual Teacher of Yogi Bhajan
Each fall we have the blessing of celebrating Guru Ram Das’ birthday. Known as the Lord of Miracles, Guru Ram Das embodied humility, service, and deep devotion. Guru Ram Das held a special place in Yogi Bhajan's heart. Kundalini Yogis look to Guru Ram Das for guidance, healing, and protection. And, Yogi Bhajan gave us a special practice to do in celebration of Guru Ram Das' birthday each year.

September 28 - October 8
For 11 days prior to Guru Ram Das’ birthday we chant the shabd* Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru, ideally, for 31 minutes a day.** Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru is known as the Shabad of Miracles. It is widely known for its blessings of protection and healing in times of deep trouble. Then we celebrate Guru Ram Das’ birthday on October 9th with a special early morning practice, see below!

October 9
Guru Ram Das’ Birthday - Early Morning Sadhana
Friday, October 9
4:30 am to 7:30 am
"Whatever you ask of Guru Ram Das on his birthday, he must deliver."—Yogi Bhajan

When Shakta opened the doors to KYL in October of 2003, the first class she taught was on Guru Ram Das’ birthday. Guru Ram Das was the 4th of the Sikh Gurus and Yogi Bhajan’s teacher on the astral plane. Was that merely circumstantial, or, was it serendipity? We think it was destiny!

Shakta chanted Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru** by herself for 2.5 hours that morning. Every year since then, we chant 2.5 hours of Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru together at KYL on Guru Ram Das’ birthday.

When you join with others to praise the realm of Guru Ram Das on his birthday anything stuck in your life can be moved from the impossible to the possible. And, who couldn’t use a little of that nowadays?!

Schedule, Friday, October 9
4:00 am - Doors to Fine Arts Building (FAB) Open
4:30 am - Japji (meditative prayer).
4:30 am - Doors to FAB Close
4:45 am - Tune In with ‘Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo.’
4:50 am - Warm-ups.
5:00 am - Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru*** (chanting for 2.5 hours).
7:35 am - Hukam**** followed by the Long Time Sunshine Song.

There is no charge for this early morning sadhana!

* A shabd is an extended mantra. ‘Sha’ means ‘to cut.’ ‘-bd’ means ‘the ego.’ A shabd is a mantra that dissolves the ego which obstructs the truth and prevents us from perceiving and acting from our authentic Self.
** If 31-minutes of meditation is impossible on some of the days prior to Guru Ram Das’ birthday simply chant Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 3, 7, 11 or 22 minutes. Even having the sound current of Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru playing continuously on repeat will have an effect on you and your environment.
*** Effect of the mantra Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru: When life seems stuck, praise the domain of Guru Ram Das, the realm of the heart and of the Neutral Mind where all things become pure. This mantra reaches the realm of miracles. Ask for a miracle and then watch the impossible become possible!
**** Hukam-the divine order of the day.
The Master Passes...

Yogi Bhajan Remembrance Day

11th Anniversary of His Passing

October 6
‘Let no one weep for me after I am gone. That would not please me at all. When a friend receives a robe of honor, then his friends are pleased with his honor.’ -- Guru Arjan Dev, Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 923.

On October 6th we remember the passing of Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga and the Mahan Tantric. This year marks the 11th anniversary of Yogi Bhajan’s passing.

Shakta Kaur remembers that day 11 years ago very well. She was teaching class at a book store in Chicago on the evening that Yogi Bhajan transitioned. She arrived home later that night to receive a phone call from a friend in Canada who relayed the news.

If you never had the opportunity to be in the physical presence of Yogi Bhajan know that you experience the touch of him as the Master of Kundalini Yoga through the teachings—the kriyas and meditations which he so selflessly left. When you practice this technology you begin to exhibit the qualities Yogi Bhajan exemplified and taught us to make our own--dignity, divinity, grace, commitment, courage, kindness, compassion, wisdom and understanding.

That is the lineage of which you are a part. This is your inheritance--direct from the soul, direct from Infinity, delivered through the Golden Chain, to you. October 6th is a special time to reflect on his life and legacy and to give thanks for the teachings once more.

Moon Watch

New Moon - September 13

11 Days After - September 24

Full Moon - September 27

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
The one who practices Kundalini Yoga commands the five tattvas, the three gunas, the seven chakras and all 108 elements in the universe including a conscious creation of the Creator.
