Early Morning Sadhana

This Saturday
- Aug 16

Early Morning Sadhana at KYL

with Shakta - 4:30 am to 7 am
"When a person gets up in the morning and does the sadhana, do you know what accompanies that person? All the angels, all saints and sages come to listen. Their souls fly to those places to listen where God is chanted." –Yogi Bhajan

4:30 am – Japji (meditative prayer)**
4:55 am – Kundalini Yoga Kriya (set of exercises)
5:50 am – Aquarian Sadhana Mantras*
6:55 am – Hukam*** and the Long Time Sunshine Song
7:00 am – Yogi Tea and light breakfast snacks! (bring something to share!)

Once each month we offer the experience of early morning sadhana at KYL. We begin at 4:30 am when the rays of the sun are hitting the earth at a 60 degree angle. Why get up at this time? Because this is the time when all of the great spiritual teachers appear to bless, elevate and transform each one of us. There is no charge for this special early morning sadhana.****

NOTE: The doors to the Fine Arts Building (FAB) open at 4:00 am. Please time your arrival for between 4:00 and 4:15 am. We begin sadhana at 4:30 am. The doors to the FAB are locked again at 4:30 am.

* Yogi Bhajan gave a specific sequence of mantras on June 21, 1992, with instructions to use them for morning sadhana in this particular order: 1) Long Ek Ong Kar, 2) Wah Yantee, Kah Yantee, 3) the Mul Mantra, 4) Sat Siree, Siree Akal, 5) Rakhe Rakhanahaar, 6) Wahe Guru Wahe Jio and 7) the Guru Ram Das chant.

** Japji is a prayer which relates the conscious mind to the soul. ‘Jap-’ is often translated as ‘song of’ and ‘-ji’ as ‘the soul.’ As a result, Japji is called ‘the song of the soul.’

*** A ‘hukam’ is the divine order of the day.

**** Sadhana (pronounced ‘sod nuh’) is, literally, ‘spiritual discipline;’ the early morning daily spiritual practice.

Healing Power of

‘Triple Gong & Mantra’

with Shakta Kaur, Hari Dev and Tej Karam Singh

Friday, August 22 - 6:30 to 8:00 pm
$16 advance / $20 door
Once again our popular monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra’ features not one, not two, but three beautiful Paiste gongs! Crystal Lake, Illinois, Teacher Training Graduate Tej Karam Singh joins Shakta Kaur and Hari Dev for this very special evening.

As always, we begin every ‘gong and mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with all three Paiste symphonic gongs. Your mind will have no defense to the gongs after 90 seconds!

After the gongs we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

So, Click Here to pre-register and join us with the deep vibrational healing of triple gong and mantra!
Guru Ram Das (1534–1581)

Guru Ram Das Chant

August 15 through August 25

Guru Guru Wahay Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru
“Wise, wise is the one who serves Infinity.”
Beginning Friday, August 15th, all classes at KYL are featuring a special mantra called the Guru Ram Das Chant. We traditionally begin chanting this mantra 11 days prior to Yogi Bhajan’s birthday (Aug. 26th). Guru Ram Das was the fourth of the Sikh Guru Saints, a great teacher and master of Kundalini Yoga of 16th century India known for his humility and compassion.

Yogi Bhajan considered Guru Ram Das his teacher on the astral plane. It is by the grace of Guru Ram Das that we are able to practice the technology of Kundalini Yoga.

Nirgun & Sirgun

This mantra has two parts, Nirgun and Sirgun. The first part, Guru Guru Wahay Guru, is a Nirgun mantra which vibrates only to Infinity. It has no finite qualities. It is the unknown. It projects the mind outwards to the source of all knowledge and ecstasy.

The second part, Guru Ram Das Guru, is a Sirgun mantra. This relates to the manifest energy or form and means, “the wisdom that comes as a servant of Infinity.” In combination, the parts of the mantra project the mind to Infinity and allow the guiding faculty to come into your practical activity.

Miracle Mantra

Also called the ‘miracle mantra,’ Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru invokes the protective energy of Guru Ram Das. It can rescue you in times of trouble. It projects the mind to Infinity then allows guidance to come into your finite, daily activities. When you chant his mantra, you can re-write any sense of your being limited. You will know yourself as an unlimited being! Bottom line, if you ever need a miracle, this is the mantra to chant!

Come to class at KYL between August 15th and 25th and watch as miracles both small and large manifest in your life!
August 26 is the ...

Celebration of a Master

Yogi Bhajan’s Birthday

Tuesday - August 26

Early Morning Sadhana at KYL
Featuring 2.5 Hours Chanting Long Ek Ong Kar
      4:30 am – Japji Sahib*
      4:20 am – Warm-Ups
5:00 am – Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru
5:12 am – Long Ek Ong Kar**
7:45 am – Hukam*** and Breakfast Snacks.

(There is no charge for this event.)

Come honor the life and legacy of the Master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan, the man who brought the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation to the west in 1968. Before then, these teachings were considered a secret science. Yogi Bhajan’s fundamental belief was that happiness was the birthright of every person. He spent his entire life teaching people how they could live to their highest potential.

Once each year, on Yogi Bhajan’s birthday, the entire worldwide community of Kundalini Yogis gathers for a simultaneous synchronized chanting of two mantras. One of them, Long Ek Ong Kar, we chant for 2.5 hours.

Yogi Bhajan once said that whenever you chant Long Ek Ong Kar for 2.5 hours on his birthday that you would receive the answers to your prayers! Come be uplifted in the celebration of the life of one individual who has changed the lives of tens of thousands of people all around the world!
*    Japji Sahib – A prayer written by Guru Nanak, the 1st of the Sikh Gurus, which relates the conscious mind to the soul. It is a technology of progression that clears all the chakras.
**  The syllables are Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wahe Guru. This was the only mantra meditation that Yogi Bhajan taught during his first year in the United States. The syllables mean, “The creator and all creation are one. This is our true identity. The ecstasy of this wisdom is Great beyond words.”
*** Hukam – The divine order of the day.

      Session 2 - April 24 to May 5, 2015 (arrive 4/23 depart 5/6)

If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.” -- Yogi Bhajan

Registration is now open for a most unique learning experience on Canada’s beautiful Prince Edward Island (PEI). Shakta returns to PEI to lead a 220-hour Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Teacher Training course in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®.

12-Days TogetherTimes Two!   This amazing course is held in two 12-day sessions. The first session runs in the fall of 2014 and the second session in the spring of 2015. Conference calls are scheduled once each month during Nov., Dec., Jan., Feb. & March to keep us on-track with both our written homework and personal practice. And, the conference calls also keep us up-to-date with our fellow classmates as they share their experience of integrating the teachings of Yogi Bhajan into daily life.

Ashram Setting - One of the reasons this Level 1 Course is so unique is because both students and faculty live together at the Centre Goeland, a tranquil, comfortable and cozy retreat center located on the south shore of Prince Edward Island. Vegetarian meals are prepared by the Centre’s professional staff. You’ll feel at home and at ease at the Centre Goeland. Plus, a tree-lined path leads to the beach which is just steps away and available for you to enjoy during breaks from class. The bonds you’ll create with fellow classmates after sharing Teacher Training in this calming, rejuvenating and natural setting will last a lifetime!

Feeling the Call - Some people take Level 1 Teacher Training because they feel the call to change their life. Some experience a huge lifestyle change and that experience is what calls them to Teacher Training. Some feel a call to be more authentic. Some feel a need to connect with like-minded people on a deeper level. Others simply want to spend time immersing themselves in the yogic teachings of a Master. Whatever your desire is to take this amazing course know that the end result will be perfect for you!

Sacred Science - Kundalini Yoga is called a ‘sacred science.’ This is because the sacredness of the student is awakened through it. Whether you’ve taken 1 or 101 yoga classes, the personal journey we call ‘Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training’ is absolutely the next step.

A most remarkable experience begins this fall on Prince Edward Island. Come immerse yourself into the comprehensive science of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. You’ll experience a clarity and neutrality of mind; a feeling of connection and vastness; a calmness and evenness in your life and more fulfillment as a human being... guaranteed!

Moon Watch
CURRENT MOON

Full Moon - August 10

New Moon - August 25

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
"
I am a gardener of consciousness. I have no relationship with you other than that. My only relationship with you is to nurture you, to make you grow, make you feel good, make you healthy, happy and holy.
"
