‘The Infinite Pulse’
Sunday, December 15
10:30 am to 12 noon
(with delicious veggie potluck afterwards!)
“When I call on my Infinity I can come through anything.” --Yogi Bhajan
Our beginning is spirit. Our end is spirit. In between we often forget that we are part of Infinity. When we do remember we feel a tenuous connection at best to All that is.
You might feel this connection as a longing to belong--a yearning to connect with something greater than yourself. Someone else grasps it every once-in-awhile through the breath and mantra. Often, however, with the busy-ness of daily life the promise of connection to this ‘Infinite Pulse' seems just beyond our reach!
Fortunately, for us, we have a technical know-how through which we can join our individual consciousness with the consciousness that is All. This realization is not bound by time and space. And, it is not achieved in linear stages. Only when we become still do we establish ourself in relationship with the Infinite.
Come to class at KYL in December to:
-- calm the mind and recognize what is important to you
--transcend and transform any subconscious habits of self-belittlement
-- gain energy to deal with the mental and spiritual facets of your life
-- use the breath to connect with the your highest and best self
-- hear, see and feel the interconnection of all things
-- understand better your relationship with the Infinite Pulse; with the spirit in you.

Healing Power of Double Gong &
with Shakta and Hari Dev
Friday December 27
- 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
|On the Friday after Christmas bring a friend and join us for our most popular monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Double Gong and Mantra!’ As always, we begin every ‘gong and mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one but two beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs.
Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!
We suspect you might need to ‘quiet the mind’ on the Friday after Christmas—in particular if you’ve spent the preceding days making merry!
After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

The island of Kauai, Hawaii, is Shakta’s favorite place on the entire planet. It is known as the ‘healing’ island, lush and green with a beautiful combination of sunshine and rainbows. Over the years Shakta
has visited the Hawaiian Islands 17 times on either business or pleasure trips. Fourteen of those visits have included time on Kauai.
Shakta and Hari Dev are returning to Kauai for the first time since 2007 for a little vacation. While there, Shakta has arranged to teach a 2-day Breathwalk Personal Intensive for anyone who loves walking (and who happens to be on Kauai at the same time)!
Breathwalk is the walking meditation practice derived from the Kundalini Yoga tradition. With Breathwalk you can change your mood, mental state and energy level simply by synchronizing your footsteps with breath, mudra and mantra.
Included in the ‘Breathwalk on Kauai’ Personal Intensive is both outdoor and indoor instruction, the Breathwalk textbook (by Yogi Bhajan and Gurucharan Singh Khalsa) and 5 Breathwalks in an ‘Illustrated Program Guide.’ You’ll basically receive everything you need to Breathwalk at home by yourself or with friends and family!
So, join Shakta for a magical weekend on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai learning Breathwalk. And, receive a $50 discount when you pre-register before January 10th!

Chicago Teacher Training Begins in 36 Days
Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training
8 Weekends Over 8 Months -
January to August 2014
“If you become your own teacher, prosperity will be there. Good things and good ideas will come to you.” --Yogi Bhajan
Unbelievable to think that Teacher Training at KYL begins in just
36 days! This course is always such a beautiful personal journey of growth, challenge, transformation and upliftment! Is January that close already?! We begin Teacher Training at KYL January 17 and end August 17, 2014. This course is always such a beautiful personal journey of growth, challenge, transformation and upliftment!
Why Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training?
Kundalini means ‘awareness.’ Awareness is the active interaction of you as a finite individual identity with you as an Infinite potential identity! This dormant energy of awareness is in you. And, Kundalini Yoga is the supreme technology to take you to your Original, Best and Highest Self!
Drop Frustrating Patterns.
As you move through the Teacher Training course you will grow. Like a snake you will shed old skins to become more of who you really are. You will learn to examine your attitudes, behaviors and emotional habits. All your frustrating ‘demoting’ habits will come to the surface to be acknowledged, blessed and sent on their way! You will gain new perspectives and capacities. You will develop ‘promoting’ habits to support your expanded awareness.
The Number ‘8’
KYL’s Chicago course is 8 weekends over 8 months.
The number ‘8’ is quite significant. It has many different properties and meanings all over the world.
--In China the number ‘8’ represents the totality of the universe.
--Eight was the number of balance and the cosmic order according to the Egyptians.
--The Greeks taught that there were eight divisions of the sky.
--In Hebrew the number 8 is Sh’moneh meaning ‘super abundance.’
--There are 8 arms of Vishnu and 8 forms of Shiva.
--Sage Patanjali codified the teachings of yoga that we know today as the ‘8 Limbs of Yoga.’
--The ‘Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi’ (‘Lord, make me an instrument of peace’...) contains 8 requests.
--And, in mathematics the symbol of Infinity is represented by the number ‘8’ laid down--the ‘Infinity Loop.’
In Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan there are 8 Chakras or energy centers of the body. Seven Chakras correspond with the physical body and the 8th Chakra is the aura. The aura is both your protection and your projection. In Teacher Training you’ll learn how to augment your aura, attract positivity and repel negativity!
The number 8 in Kundalini Yoga is also associated with the Pranic Body. Prana is the life force that you breathe in on the air. It continuously brings energy into your system. The Pranic Body allows you to feel fearless, fully alive and at one with creation. In Teacher Training you learn to renew your energy and tap into your self-motivation so that you have more than enough vitality to enjoy life and achieve your goals!
The techniques that you learn during this 8 month course form an ‘owner’s manual’ for human consciousness. Everyone needs a technical know-how to get the best from the body, mind and spirit. That technical know-how is called ‘Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training.’
Through your own practice and discipline you will go beyond mere intellectual knowledge. You experience with your own heart and being your Original, Best and Highest Self. That is how, as Yogi Bhajan says, all ‘good things and good ideas will come to you!’
Tuition: $3,300 - $500 down - Payment Plans Available ($3,500

liberate you from the cycle of birth and death.
Feeling the Call
people feel the call to change their life. Some feel the
call to be more authentic. Some feel a need to connect
with like-minded people on a deeper level. Some simply
want to spend more time immersing themselves in the
teachings. Whatever your desire is to take this amazing
course know that the end result will be perfect for you.
We are all teachers.
We teach each other when we can see ourselves clearly
and when we can help another see him/herself clearly. To
teach is to transform and to be transformed. To be the
best teacher we need to be the best student. And, the
best student comes from a genuine immersion into a
practice where we learn to be who we are and serve all
from the heart.

The Change Maker Meditation
Kriya - The Change Maker Meditation
“The Saa-Taa-Naa-Maa (Kirtan Kriya) meditation is the basic
fundamental meditation which cuts through everything.” --Yogi Bhajan
before beginning a Level 1 Teacher Training course, we practice a meditation together (from the comfort of our own home!) starting 40 days in advance of the course.
The meditation we practice is ‘Kirtan Kriya,’ the ‘change-maker’ meditation.* Here is as link to a conference call recording with Shakta where you can hear how to practice ‘Kirtan Kriya:’ http://www.shaktakaur.com/media/audio/kirtan-kriya/2011-Sept-14-Change-Maker.mp3
The 40-days that we practice Kirtan Kriya together are a very sacred time. Historically, 40 days is a length of time often referred to in many ancient scriptures for enacting change. Doing something for 40 days can make or break a habit in a person. If you are consistent in your practice, it can clear old subconscious patterns, set up new positive patterns and change your life for the better.
The key word is “consistent.” How does this work? You choose a specific time of day—early morning, for example. If you practice Kirtan Kriya in the morning, but one day you oversleep or are late for work, be sure to practice it somewhere within the 24 hours before the next morning. The goal is not to miss even one day! However, don’t be too hard on yourself up if you wake up one morning and realize you missed one day. Just pick up where you left off and continue your sadhana** as the days draw closer to our first day of Teacher Training.
Shakta suggests that you note in a journal or notebook or on your computer your feelings and thoughts as you move through your 40-day sadhana. Begin with a line or two to yourself on Day 1, and remember to note any changes or feelings on Days 20, 30 and, of course, 40.
Stir it Up
Sometimes a personal sadhana can stir up feelings and emotions from the past. You may find forgotten memories surfacing. They may sometimes be painful. Relax and know that this is part of a normal cleansing process. Just remember to acknowledge your feelings, breathe, smile and allow them to go through you. The feelings will pass and will soon depart. You will have moved yourself on to clearer days in no time.
PPracticing ‘Kirtan Kriya’ each day for 40 days is an experience not to be missed!
Call or e-mail Shakta if you have any questions about either ‘Kirtan Kriya’ or Level 1 Teacher Training.
*A written copy of ‘Kirtan Kriya’ is also available here:
**Sadhana (pronounced ‘saad nuh’) is a personal daily spiritual practice.
Just For Fun - Elfs!
New Moon - December 2
11 Days After - December 13
Full Moon - December 17
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full
Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher
centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people
or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress
of your special projects.
11 Days After
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance.
The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism
is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you
live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect.
Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon
and water the rest of the day.
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.

Conscious New Year's Eve Celebration
A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
Those who understand life and love have endurance. They do not act childish, and they do not act passionate and entangle themselves in commotion and neurosis. Their words are like jewels and they are conscious like the brightness of God and their strength is like Infinity. These are the people who really are the beloveds of God, and they enjoy love as the last chance of life. Otherwise, Maya is so bewitching, people forget their reality and they forget so badly, that at the last day, they can’t remember why they didn’t prepare for the last day. But the day you start preparing for that last day by reminding yourself, ‘When I quit the planet, what legacy am I going to leave behind? And what link shall I have with Infinity’ – then you are liberated.
