KYL's 10th Anniversary

October Theme... The Power of 10

KYL’s 10th Anniversary
This Weekend!

The number 10 in Kundalini Yoga is the dynamic ‘all or nothing’ number! And, the number ‘10’ is our focus during the month of October because this is the month that KYL celebrates its 10 year anniversary in The Fine Arts Building!

All classes during October focus on the 10th Body also known as the Radiant Body. The Radiant Body is just one of your ten bodies.* It represents your spiritual royalty and strength. Your 10th Body makes you courageous in the face of any obstacle. You exert a magnetic presence and command the respect of all who know you. And, you maintain that victorious spirit in spite of what may be occurring outside of you!

Come celebrate with KYL during October to...
     -- recognize your inner nobility
-- enhance your radiance and royal courage
-- develop your stamina and energy plus
-- increase your ability to come through in all situations!

* The 10 Bodies are the yogic description of what the perfected human being looks like and acts like. The 10 Bodies are the Soul Body, Negative Mind, Positive Mind, Neutral Mind, Physical Body, Arcline, Aura, Pranic Body, Subtle Body and Radiant Body. The 10 Bodies form a technical break-down of how the different parts of the psyche--the 10 bodies--work.

KYL’s 10th Anniversary Weekend - October 11-12-13
Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL) celebrates 10 years of serving downtown yogis in October! When Shakta Kaur first started teaching Kundalini Yoga it was in a small hatha studio in the Loop.* At the time, Shakta was the only person teaching ‘Kundalini Yoga in the Loop!’ So, that was how she advertised at the time. Eventually, that is also how KYL got its name! To celebrate our ten year anniversary KYL is offering plenty of ‘free’ events in addition to regular classes and events.

*The ‘Loop’ is the 1.79-mile circuit of elevated train that forms the hub of the ‘L’ rapid transit system in downtown Chicago, Illinois.

Ten Years to-the-day Class with Shakta Kaur
Sunday, Oct. 13 - 10:30 am to 12 noon
($18 door / $16 advance - and delicious veggie potluck afterwards!)

Come join Shakta for a ’10 Years to-the-day Class’ where you will focus on the strength of your Radiant Body. The Radiant Body is a little band that sits on top of your aura. It enables you to act courageously which means acting even though you are afraid.

Yogi Bhajan called the Radiant Body ‘one plus.’  It’s one--the soul body--plus your radiance. The 10th Body is a state where there are no blocks to exhibiting your soulful self externally. You recognize and realize your magnificence and you want to show it to others. You realize, however, that whatever flows through you is, when all is said and done, the creator’s radiance, not yours.

Shakta will guide you through a kriya to stimulate the body and mind so that you can easily tap into the Infinite’s intention for your incarnation. You’ll move, relax and dance each molecule to remind yourself to always trust in your Best, Original and Highest Self!

Release Your Fears

Conference Call with Shakta
Recording Now Available!
If you missed last Saturday’s conference call with Shakta you can still ‘release your fears’ by listening to the call recording. On this call Shakta defines ‘fear’ and shares that fear comes in degrees from mild caution to extreme phobia and even paranoia. She explained a little about the neurobiology of fear and also named some of the most common fears—both external and internal.

Shakta also shared a meditation that we practiced on this call with her. She suggested that we begin with 3 minutes a day and eventually work up to the recommended time of 11 minutes a day for 40 days to change or break our fear ‘habit.’ About this particular meditation Yogi Bhajan said it would help you gain a secure sense of yourself and release subconscious fears—once and for all!

Finally, details about the Chicago, IL, USA and Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, Level 1 Teacher Training courses that begin in 2014 were discussed. Teacher Training itself is a powerful technology to help release subconscious fears. Shakta encouraged everyone on the call to consider ‘gifting’ themselves with this course in 2014!

Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training - Chicago

8 Weekends Over 8 Months - January to August 2014
[download brochure]     [download application]     [register online]

If you become your own teacher, prosperity will be there. Good things and good ideas will come to you.” --Yogi Bhajan

Registration is now open for KYL’s 13th Level 1 Course - the Aquarian Teacher, Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. We begin on January 17 and end on August 17, 2014. Teacher Training at KYL is always a beautiful personal journey of growth, challenge, transformation and upliftment!

Why Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training? Kundalini means ‘awareness.’ Awareness is the active interaction of you as a finite individual identity with you as an Infinite potential identity! This dormant energy of awareness is in you. And, Kundalini Yoga is the supreme technology to take you to your Original, Best and Highest Self!

Drop Frustrating Patterns. As you move through the Teacher Training course you will grow. Like a snake you will shed old skins to become more of who you really are. You will learn to examine your attitudes, behaviors and emotional habits. All your frustrating ‘demoting’ habits will come to the surface to be acknowledged, blessed and sent on their way! You will gain new perspectives and capacities. You will develop ‘promoting’ habits to support your expanded awareness. The Number ‘8’ KYL’s Chicago course is 8 weekends over 8 months.

The number ‘8’ is quite significant. It has many different properties and meanings all over the world.
--In China the number ‘8’ represents the totality of the universe.
--Eight was the number of balance and the cosmic order according to the Egyptians.
--The Greeks taught that there were eight divisions of the sky.
--In Hebrew the number 8 is Sh’moneh meaning ‘super abundance.’
--There are 8 arms of Vishnu and 8 forms of Shiva.
--Sage Patanjali codified the teachings of yoga that we know today as the ‘8 Limbs of Yoga.’
--The ‘Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi’ (‘Lord, make me an instrument of peace’...) contains 8 requests.
--And, in mathematics the symbol of Infinity is represented by the number ‘8’ laid down--the ‘Infinity Loop.’

Aura. In Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan there are 8 Chakras or energy centers of the body. Seven Chakras correspond with the physical body and the 8th Chakra is the aura. The aura is both your protection and your projection. In Teacher Training you’ll learn how to augment your aura, attract positivity and repel negativity!

Pranic Body. The number 8 in Kundalini Yoga is also associated with the Pranic Body. Prana is the life force that you breathe in on the air. It continuously brings energy into your system. The Pranic Body allows you to feel fearless, fully alive and at one with creation. In Teacher Training you learn to renew your energy and tap into your self-motivation so that you have more than enough vitality to enjoy life and achieve your goals!

Owner’s Manual. The techniques that you learn during this 8 month course form an ‘owner’s manual’ for human consciousness. Everyone needs a technical know-how to get the best from the body, mind and spirit. That technical know-how is called ‘Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training.’

Through your own practice and discipline you will go beyond mere intellectual knowledge. You experience with your own heart and being your Original, Best and Highest Self. That is how, as Yogi Bhajan says, all ‘good things and good ideas will come to you!’

Tuition: $3,200 (until 11/16/2013) - $500 down - Payment Plans Available ($3,400 tuition)

If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.” -- Yogi Bhajan

Registration is now open for a most unique Level 1 experience on Canada’s Prince Edward Island (PEI). This 220-hour Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Teacher Training in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is taught in two 12-day sessions—the first in the spring of 2014 and the second session is in the fall. (Both sessions are required for certification.) Conference calls are scheduled once each month during June, July, August and September. These calls keep us on-track with both our written homework and personal practice. And, they keep us up-to-date with our fellow teachers-in-training as they share their experience of integrating the teachings into daily life. Conference calls are also scheduled once each month for 4 months after the training ends. These calls guide the graduates as they begin sharing and teaching what they’ve learned.

Training Team
If this sounds like something you would like to experience, why not join us for 12 days next spring and another 12 days next fall for the 220-hour Level 1 Teacher Training course in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan that is called ‘The Aquarian Teacher?’ When you do, you will receive guidance from an international team of teacher trainers including Shakta Kaur (Chicago, IL, USA), Hari Simran Singh, D.C. (Oakland, CA, USA) and Shabad Saroop Singh (Montreal, CN).

Ashram Setting
This is an unique Level 1 course format, especially designed to create community in an ashram-like setting where your senses, mind and body will be nourished (and challenged!) by the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. It is also golden opportunity to learn reverence and respect for yourself while being immersed in a discipline which can liberate you from the cycle of birth and death.

Feeling the Call
Some people feel the call to change their life. Some feel the call to be more authentic. Some feel a need to connect with like-minded people on a deeper level. Some simply want to spend more time immersing themselves in the teachings. Whatever your desire is to take this amazing course know that the end result will be perfect for you.

We are all teachers.
We teach each other when we can see ourselves clearly and when we can help another see him/herself clearly. To teach is to transform and to be transformed. To be the best teacher we need to be the best student. And, the best student comes from a genuine immersion into a practice where we learn to be who we are and serve all from the heart.

Come immerse yourself in The Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Teacher Training Course on Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. Register with your down-payment by Oct. 25th and receive a $300 tuition discount!

Just For Fun - First Ad for KYL
Ten years ago Shakta Kaur moved her small schedule of Kundalini Yoga classes from a hatha yoga studio in down town Chicago to the Fine Arts Building on Michigan Ave. And that is where KYL remains today! Here is a copy of the original advertisement that Hari Dev placed in YogaChicago magazine to announce her move!  Shakta taught every class at KYL at that time.
Moon Watch

New Moon - October 4

11 Days After - October 15

Full Moon - October 18

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
When you understand who and what you are, your radiance projects into the universal radiance and everything around you becomes creative and full of opportunity.
