Healing Power of Double Gong & Mantra

with Shakta and Hari Dev
Friday August 16 - 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Bring a friend and join us for one of our most popular monthly sessions of the ‘Healing Power of Double Gong and Mantra!’ As always, we begin every ‘gong and mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but two beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs. Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!

After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

So, click here to pre-register and join us for the deep vibrational healing of double gong and mantra on Friday August 16.

Shakta Teaches Yoga for Grace

at KYL

10:30 to Noon

(with delicious vegetarian potluck afterward!)
Traditional Prelude
Guru Ram Das Chant

August 15 through August 25

Guru Guru Wahay Guru
Guru Ram Das Guru
Beginning August 15th, all classes at KYL will feature a special mantra meditation called the Guru Ram Das Chant. We traditionally begin chanting this mantra 11 days prior to Yogi Bhajan’s birthday (Aug. 26th). Guru Ram Das was the 4th of the Sikh Guru Saints, a great teacher and master of Kundalini Yoga of 16th century India known for his humility and compassion.

Yogi Bhajan considered Guru Ram Das his teacher on the astral plane. It is by the grace of Guru Ram Das that we are able to practice the technology of Kundalini Yoga.

Two Parts
This mantra has two parts, Nirgun and Sirgun. The first part, “Guru Guru Wahay Guru,” is a Nirgun mantra which vibrates only to Infinity. It has no finite qualities. It is the unknown. It projects the mind outwards to the source of all knowledge and ecstasy.

The second part, “Guru Ram Das Guru,” is a Sirgun mantra. This relates to the manifest energy or form and means, “the wisdom that comes as a servant of Infinity.” In combination, the parts of the mantra project the mind to Infinity and allow the guiding faculty to come into your practical activity.

Miracle Mantra
This meditation invokes the protective energy of Guru Ram Das. It can rescue you in times of trouble. It projects the mind to Infinity then allows guidance to come into your finite, daily activities. If you ever need a miracle, this is the mantra to chant!

Come to class at KYL between August 15th and 25th and watch as miracles both small and large manifest in your life!

Two Sessions of 12-days - Spring and Fall 2014
Registration is Now Open! Level 1 Teacher Training Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada

     Session 1 - April 25 to May 6, 2014 (arrive 4/24 depart 5/7)
     Session 2 - Oct. 15 to Oct. 25, 2014 (arrive 10/13 depart 10/26)
If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.” -- Yogi Bhajan

Registration is now open for a most unique Level 1 experience on Canada’s Prince Edward Island (PEI). This 220-hour Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Teacher Training in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is taught in two 12-day sessions—the first in the spring of 2014 and the second session is in the fall. (Both sessions are required for certification.) Conference calls are scheduled once each month during June, July, August and September. These calls keep us on-track with both our written homework and personal practice. And, they keep us up-to-date with our fellow teachers-in-training as they share their experience of integrating the teachings into daily life. Conference calls are also scheduled once each month for 4 months after the training ends. These calls guide the graduates as they begin sharing and teaching what they’ve learned.

Training Team
If this sounds like something you would like to experience, why not join us for 12 days next spring and another 12 days next fall for the 220-hour Level 1 Teacher Training course in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan that is called ‘The Aquarian Teacher?’ When you do, you will receive guidance from an international team of teacher trainers including Shakta Kaur (Chicago, IL, USA), Hari Simran Singh, D.C. (Oakland, CA, USA) and Shabad Saroop Singh (Montreal, CN).

Ashram Setting
This is an unique Level 1 course format, especially designed to create community in an ashram-like setting where your senses, mind and body will be nourished (and challenged!) by the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. It is also golden opportunity to learn reverence and respect for yourself while being immersed in a discipline which can liberate you from the cycle of birth and death.V

Feeling the Call
Some people feel the call to change their life. Some feel the call to be more authentic. Some feel a need to connect with like-minded people on a deeper level. Some simply want to spend more time immersing themselves in the teachings. Whatever your desire is to take this amazing course know that the end result will be perfect for you.

We are all teachers.
We teach each other when we can see ourselves clearly and when we can help another see him/herself clearly. To teach is to transform and to be transformed. To be the best teacher we need to be the best student. And, the best student comes from a genuine immersion into a practice where we learn to be who we are and serve all from the heart.

Come immerse yourself in The Aquarian Teacher Level 1 Teacher Training Course on Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. Register with your down-payment by Oct. 25th and receive a $300 tuition discount!

Long Ek Ong Kar (Adi Shakti Mantra)

Today is Day #29

Did you join Shakta on Thursday morning, July 18th*, as she began her annual 40-day sadhana of two-and-a-half-hours of Long Ek Ong Kar?  She will end this special 40-day sadhana on Yogi Bhajan’s birthday, Monday, August 26.

Long Ek Ong Kar is the cornerstone of early morning group practice and is often called simply, Long Chant. It is also referred to as ‘Morning Call.’ It initiates the Kundalini, initiating the relationship between the soul and the Universal Soul while balancing all the chakras.

The meaning of ‘Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wahe Guru,’ is: ‘One Creator created this Creation. Truth is His Name. Great beyond description is His infinite wisdom.’

Yogi Bhajan said about this mantra,
‘In the time period two-and-a-half hours before the rising of the Sun, when the channels of energy are most clear, if the Mantra is sung in sweet harmony, you will be one with the Lord. This will open the solar plexus, which in turn will charge the solar centers. The person will get connected with the Cosmic Energy, and thus will be liberated from the cycle of time and karma.’

Shakta's sadhana follows this schedule:
     4:00 am – Japji **
     4:15 am - Yoga
4:30 am - Long Ek Ong Kar
     7:00 am - Daily Hukam ***

* July 18 is Hari Dev Singh and Shakta Kaur’s wedding anniversary! Click Here to see photos from their wedding ceremony nine years ago officiated by KRI’s CEO Nirvair Singh Khalsa.
** Japji is a prayer which relates the conscious mind to the soul. ‘Jap-’ is often translated as ‘song of’ and ‘-ji’ as ‘the soul.’ As a result, Japji is called ‘the song of the soul.’
*** A ‘hukam’ is the divine order of the day.
KYL's Theme...

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation

for Grace
The most precious thing you have as a human being is your own grace. The only real difference between people is in their degree of grace. Your real power—your spiritual power—is in your grace.
“What is Grace? Grace is the shield of radiation or radiant shield which protects the pranic balance in your entire living system, not only with you, and within you, and within your psyche, but how you correlate to all other psyches in your communication of memory. All who have gone before you, all who have to follow you. Do you understand what grace is now?  The trust that others place in you, is your grace. The word you give to others is grace. Expectation of you being who you are is grace. It is a sum total of your personality, reflected by you. It is your radiant body.” — Yogi Bhajan
Come to KYL and learn to:
-- be grateful for consciousness and existence (because accepting is grace)
-- develop the grace of the meditative mind
-- not lose your grace, no matter what
-- stand any disgrace with grace and
-- serve your grace, not your ego.

Shakta Teaching Wednesdays

Aug. 21 & 28

12:15 to 1 pm

Just like the old days!
When Shakta and Hari Dev first opened KYL in October of 2003 Shakta taught all of the classes—lunch time, evening and weekend! It wasn’t really until they started offering Teacher Training that Shakta was able to offer others regular teaching slots at KYL.

But, this month you’ll have 2 opportunities to have a lunch time class with Shakta. (Just like the old days!) She’s substituting for Hari Dev on Wed., Aug. 21 and 28 from 12:15 to 1:00 pm.

So, if you can’t get downtown for a Sunday class with Shakta you’ll have 2 chances to do so during the work week.

(There is no charge for this event.)

Come honor the life and legacy of the Master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan, the man who brought the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation to the west in 1968. Before then, these teachings were considered a secret science. Yogi Bhajan’s fundamental belief was that happiness was the birthright of every person. He spent his entire life teaching people how they could live to their highest potential.

Once each year, on Yogi Bhajan’s birthday, the entire worldwide community of Kundalini Yogis gathers for a simultaneous synchronized chanting of two mantras. One of them, Long Ek Ong Kar, we chant for 2.5 hours.

Yogi Bhajan once said that whenever you chant Long Ek Ong Kar for 2.5 hours on his birthday that you would receive the answers to your prayers!

Shakta finishes her annual 40-day practice of chanting 2.5 hours of Long Ek Ong Kar on the day of Yogi Bhajan’s birthday. Come be uplifted in the celebration of the life of one individual who has changed the lives of tens of thousands of people all around the world!
*    Japji Sahib – A prayer written by Guru Nanak, the 1st of the Sikh Gurus, which relates the conscious mind to the soul. It is a technology of progression that clears all the chakras.
**  The syllables are Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wahe Guru. This was the only mantra meditation that Yogi Bhajan taught during his first year in the United States. The syllables mean, “The creator and all creation are one. This is our true identity. The ecstasy of this wisdom is Great beyond words.”
*** Hukam – The order of the day.
Food For The Gods

Cold Quinoa Salad a la Bhajan Kaur

Quinoa Salad a la Bhajan Kaur. At potluck a couple of Sundays ago Bhajan Kaur (Lauren) Daniel brought an awesome Quinoa Salad to share. Everyone loved it! Especially with the chickpeas added for additional protein. That’s when we found out that it was ‘Quinoa Salad a la Bhajan!’ Apparently, the chickpeas and a couple other items were Bhajan’s own touches that made this salad a very special treat for all!
Just For Fun
What do yogis do on lunch breaks during Level 1 Teacher Training in Crystal Lake, Illinois? Shop, of course! Shakta Kaur and Natalie Wallace (daughter of local host, Meherpal Kaur (Tricia) Wallace) laugh at themselves trying on sunglasses. (At the urging of several teachers-in-training Shakta bought the heart-shaped sunglasses!)
Moon Watch

New Moon - August 6

11 Days After - August 17

Full Moon - August 20

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
When you are totally bewitched with an urge, what can you do to immediately get out of it?  Gutkaa, gutkaa, gutkaa, gutkaa.  “I am the Grace of God.”  That is a gutkaa.  Start relating to yourself, and the entire world will relate to you at the same frequency.  That is the law.  Whatever frequency you will apply to yourself, the entire world will apply the same frequency.
