Father's Day Class
Father’s Day Class
with Bhajan Kaur Daniel
Sunday, June 17
- 10:30 am to 12 noon
(veggie potluck after!)
The bond between you and your father is very profound. You have known each other for a long, long time. In fact, you made a contract to be together in this relationship before the two of you came into the earth plane. Even after death--for either the father or the child--that relationship continues.
No matter what kind of relationship you have had with your father it is important to thank the soul that helped bring you here. The purpose of being on earth is to evolve your soul. In fact, that is the ‘sole’ purpose of your life! So, it is important to thank the soul that brought you into this world, to wish him well and to pray for him.
Join Bhajan Kaur for a special Father’s Day Kundalini Yoga and Meditation class to celebrate all of our fathers on this Father’s Day. If your father is alive you can wish him the gift of health and longevity. If your father is deceased you can wish him the gift of peace for his soul. And, if your relationship with your father needs a bit of repair, you can infuse some harmony, burn some karma and help release bad feelings... on both sides! In return you will receive grace for honoring the man that bestowed the gift of life to you.
Sunday's class is always followed by community potluck - bring a vegetarian dish and enjoy the community spirit at KYL.

Summer Solstice June 20
Summer Solstice Classes at KYL
Wednesday - June 20
12:15 pm with Saibhung Singh
6:00 pm with Sarabraj Kaur
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with Saibhung Singh and
Sarabraj Kaur in two special classes next Wednesday at KYL! ‘Solstice’ comes from the Latin (sun + stands). For several days before and after each solstice, the sun appears to stand still in the sky. This is the longest day and shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. It also marks the ‘official’ beginning of summer.
Summer Solstice is also seen by yogis as a primary gateway for manifestation. So, come to KYL and manifest what you deserve on this day when the sun is at its highest energy! Consciously attract and send abundance, perfect health, happiness and contentment to yourself, your friends and loved ones.
Click Here to register for a Summer Solstice Wednesday class at KYL.
In the meanwhile, enjoy these excerpts from a talk given by Yogi Bhajan on June 18, 1973 at Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration:
“We want strength once a year to prove to our own selves how much we love each other. We want our gathering to be together. This is our yatra. That is the purpose of it. We want to see each other. We want to meet each other. We want to sing together. We want to face each others’ difficulties. We want to help each other. We want to love each other. We want to understand each other. We want to be each other. We don’t care if God comes,
'Thank you very much.' We want to deserve. We don’t want to desire anything. We have come here to deserve everything. And when you deserve, your desires are fulfilled automatically.
We want to practice the mantra, Keep Up. We want certain things to keep our life together. For certain days we want to know each other together. We don’t want to live in a steel jungle during these days. Is it clear to you? That is what we want.
You have come here to build what we have lost. We want to build a nation which we have lost. We want to lay the foundations of the new future. That is the purpose of us being here this day: to prove to ourselves that we have the spirit to survive through every obstacle.”
Gong & Mantra Night
Healing Power of Double Gong & Mantra
with Shakta Kaur and Hari Dev Singh
Friday, June 29
6:30 to 8:00 pm
Bring a friend and join us for one of our most popular monthly sessions of gong and mantra! As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong
& Mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but, two beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs.
Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!
After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness. Fee $17 at-the-door. Or,

Shakta Teaching at Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration
‘The Lunar Woman, Solar Man and Relationships’
with Hari Charn Kaur Khalsa
Espanola, New Mexico
Sunday, June 17
10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Remember to visit KYL’s Booth in the Bazaar, too!
“It's true that this time of year has me turning towards Summer Solstice ... both physically and spiritually. Years back when I first read what Yogi Bhajan had said about the Solstices-'Revolve your life around summer and winter solstice and everything will be taken care of,' I thought to myself, 'I wonder if that will ever happen! I can say that it has. My soul, my being, my essence needs the annual cleansing power of both the Summer and Winter Solstice. And, there is no better place to be than in the company of over 2,000 like-minded yogis during Summer Solstice at Ram Das Puri!
This year the 3HO IKYTA Teachers Conference on Friday, June 15, focuses on the theme of 'grit.' This comes from Yogi Bhajan's 'Eight Elements of Excellence.'* Even if you're not a Kundalini Yoga teacher, come to enjoy yoga, meditation and community with yogis from all over the globe at the Teachers Conference. It is open to all! Plus, you'll also learn how to prepare physically, mentally and emotionally to have the 'grit' of a spiritual warrior for whatever challenges might come your way once you leave Summer Solstice and are back in your daily world of work and family.
At the 'Lunar Woman, Solar Man and Relationships' workshop on Sunday, June 17, Hari Charn Kaur Khalsa and I focus on how woman's basic nature is like the moon which waxes and wanes, while man's basic nature is like the sun which is continuous and constant. The moon reflects the sun. And, if there is no moon to reflect, the woman becomes the 'full moon' to reflect herself. The yoga set in this class is especially chosen to 'Welcome Happiness and Success and Expel Grief and Guilt.' We want to move out of the way OF whatever no longer serves us in our relationships. And, we'll share how women can learn to chart their own moon center cycle. (By the way, this session is appropriate for everyone-singles or couples.)
As I prepare for Summer Solstice I realize that my computer desk actually faces 'west' ... towards New Mexico! On a more subtle level I find that my inner self is preparing for the spiritual upliftment, unfolding and community that the sacred land of Ram Das Puri always provides at this time of year. I look forward to seeing you there!”

For Chicago's Level 1 Teacher Training
Teacher Training Devi Scholarship
Deadline is September 1
If finances have kept you from taking the Chicago Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training course at KYL, then the Devi Scholarship may be just what you need! Go on-line
for more details, then complete the application form and return it with your financial deposit on or before Sept. 1st to be considered for one of several partial scholarships. Devi Scholarships are funded by friends, supporters and prior graduates of KYL’s Level 1 Teacher Training courses.
Here’s what one recipient had to say about the impact of receiving a Devi Scholarship:
“Shakta, I wanted you and Hari Dev Singh to know that the Devi Scholarship which enabled me to take Teacher Training has SAVED my life... literally. I was broke in more ways than one. I needed much healing in both body and mind. You knew that my financial situation was such that without the scholarship I would not have been able to take the course. What you don’t know is that I believe Kundalini Yoga has healed both my body from Chron's Disease and my brain from its Bi-Polar behavior. It truly has been a medicine of the divine. I constantly see changes in me that I know are a result of the Teacher Training course. I now have a new hope in my life. None of this would have been possible without the Devi Scholarship. I thank you and all the teachers before me who made this possible.”
To apply for a Devi Scholarship you’ll need to complete an
application form that requires answers to six questions (available here). You are asked to write a biography about yourself; to describe a teacher of any kind whom you admire; to describe your current yoga practice; and to write something about your motivation to take Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training at KYL. When you send in your application you include a financial deposit ($500 recommended). This indicates to the universe your commitment to take the course. You will need to offer some evidence of financial need. Finally, a personal interview is conducted to determine which candidates will eventually receive a Devi Scholarship.

Aquarian Age Conference Call with Shakta
Release Subconscious Fears
Saturday, June 30 -
7:00 am Central / 8:00 am Eastern / 9:00 am Atlantic
What do you fear? The #1 fear of most Americans is the fear of public speaking. Other common fears include the fear of ghosts, spiders, snakes, heights, enclosed spaces, needles, taking an exam and growing old. Most everyone has some fear of death. Fear comes in degrees from mild caution to extreme phobias and paranoia.
While a good dose of fear is often necessary for personal safety sometimes at a very early age fear becomes part of our subconscious. As adults we may show this unconscious fear as fear of loss, separation, abandonment or feelings of helplessness. Other times fear might show itself in feelings of not really being sure of ourselves. Fear clouds our judgment and engages not only the mind, but the body, too.
There are ways to eliminate and take fear out of your life—once and for all. Join Shakta for a free one-hour conference call as she shares:
- a powerful yogic tool that can help you release subconscious fears,
- a meditation that uses the sound ‘Gobind’ (which means ‘to protect and sustain the self),’
- how the fear of change can be overcome, plus,
- information about the Chicago, Illinois, USA, and Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, Teacher Training courses!
Shakta will make a special announcement on this call about these two Teacher Training courses!
Teacher Training is a sacred science which:
- provides a direct, internal experience of yoga and meditation,
- orients your mind toward its proper role as your ‘servant,’
- stops the repetition of past errors and patterns,
- invokes your intuition, and
- makes your life easier.
Register to receive the call-in number and pass-code.
* While there is no charge for this call your normal long-distance telephone charges may apply.
KYL's Theme for June
Embrace Your Destiny
Fate and destiny -- karma and dharma -- exist together. At every moment we can choose to act in our fate or in our destiny. In fate, we create karma -- actions we must complete or resolve. Acting in destiny we are in flow with the universe, with our spirit and with our basic nature. These actions are beyond karma. They are in dharma, or, living within our destiny cycle.
The soul returns again and again, remembering a little, forgetting, then remembering, until the destiny task is manifested. Each of us has a very unique destiny to fulfill which no one else can complete.
Come to Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL) during June to ‘Embrace Your Destiny’ with yoga and meditation guaranteed to remove personal karmas, dissolve fate and open your heart and mind to the soul’s path!

Begins October 26, 2012 - 10 Weekends

A note from Shakta Kaur: “I will never be the same again,”
is what we often hear from those who have taken Kundalini Yoga
Teacher Training at KYL . My initial motivation was to
deepen my personal yoga and meditation practice. And, in
truth, I had no intention of teaching Kundalini Yoga. I
already had a degree in music education and had taught public
school music for several years. I really thought that my
teaching days were over!
It wasn’t long, however, before I found myself informally sharing
the techniques I’d learned during Teacher Training not only with
my friends and family, but with the loan officer at our bank and
other business contacts. I laughed out loud when I
realized that I was, in fact, ‘teaching!’
Whatever draws you to this amazing course in Kundalini Yoga as
taught by Yogi Bhajan, know that the end result will be perfect
for you even while it might also be totally different than what
you initially expected. Along the way your mental,
physical and emotional growth will be enhanced in a supportive
and cozy environment. You will learn the tools to not only
deepen your own personal practice, but, you will also gain the
knowledge and self-confidence to elevate yourself and others
into a more peaceful and powerful space.

Full Moon - June 4
New Moon - June 19
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
($13) - not on Friday
(After Sunday's class join us for a vegetarian potluck.)

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
Revolve your life around summer and winter solstice and everything will be taken care of.
