Greek Easter Class - Sunday April 15

with Shakta

10:30 to Noon
Come join Shakta and experience Kundalini Yoga and Meditation as we continue to clear the way to a spring of new beginnings. This Sunday is the celebration of the Greek Orthodox Easter. Shakta’s father was Greek. While she was raised Roman Catholic she always enjoyed having ‘two’ religions at home. She especially enjoyed having two ‘Easters’ as a child! Her yia-yia (Greek grandmother) made butter twist cookies and traditional sweet bread for her family’s Easter meal.

Shakta also remembers enjoying the Greek tradition of red-dyed Easter eggs at Easter dinner. Each person would take an egg and using just the tip of the egg, attempt to crack each others' (hard boiled!) eggs. The person whose egg lasts the longest is assured good luck for the rest of the year!  When Hari Dev attended his first Greek Easter dinner with Shakta's family, he (of course) won the egg contest.  That winning egg held an honored place in the refridgerator for 3 years, until it exploded.

On Greek Easter this Sunday we continue to celebrate new beginnings, regeneration and a return to our Source. Plus, Hari Dev will cook something 'very Greek' for potluck.  So come to class and bring something greekish to share.  Click Here to register.
Healing Power of Gong & Mantra
with Shakta Kaur and Hari Dev Singh

Friday, April 13
6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
($15 in advance / $17 at the door)
Come enjoy the abundant energy of Friday the 13th with Shakta and Hari Dev at KYL’s popular monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra.’ Despite Friday the 13th’s reputation as a day of negativity and foreboding, we will use all of that intense focus to create a deeper connection with our highest and best Self.

We begin ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ with light Kundalini Yoga exercises to warm up and prepare our body for the gongs (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but two, and often three beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs!

The sound of the gong creates deep relaxation, releases us from the torrent of thoughts our mind continuously generates and stimulates our glandular system to a higher level of functioning. (In fact, the mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!)

After the gong we use sound (mantra) with a meditation to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we invoke the positive power contained in those syllables ... even on Friday the 13th!

So, Click Here to pre-register and join us for the deep vibrational healing of gong and mantra!

The beauty of White Tantric Yoga is that it is subtle, it is exalting and it works to give you the mastery of life.” --Yogi Bhajan
White Tantric Yoga® is world-renowned as one of the most powerful and beautiful of all subtle energy practices. It enables you to break through deep subconscious blocks, so that your mind, body, and soul can act together as one. As a path to personal freedom and awareness, it has been said that this practice can bring success to every area of your life.

White Tantric Yoga (WTY) is a day of six to eight meditations practiced with a partner. You sit facing your partner and follow instructions given on DVD by the Mahan Tantric, Yogi Bhajan, and repeated by the course facilitator. Every course is facilitated in person by a representative of the Mahan Tantric.

Each WTY course consists of between six and eight kriyas. A WTY kriya is a meditation incorporating a yoga posture, mudra (hand position), eye focus (dristi) and mental focus. Sometimes the meditations are accompanied by music. The meditations vary in length from 11 to 31 to 62 minutes. There are ample breaks in between each meditation.

New Moon! For the first time in many, many years White Tantric Yoga (WTY) Chicago occurs on the day of the New Moon. There is no better way to honor the 'still point' within yourself than by coming together to meditate on the day of the New Moon at White Tantric Yoga (WTY) Chicago. As you meditate you can simply allow those things that need to be re-set to be re-cast for you. All possibilities exist at WTY! Let go of what no longer serves you. Allow in all that which will add to your personal growth and development. Come join us and know that anything is possible! Quite simply, the most powerful place to be on Saturday, April 21st is White Tantric Yoga Chicago!

There are no prerequisites for participating in White Tantric Yoga. Beginners will tune into their internal energies and enjoy a deep and sometimes challenging meditative experience. More advanced meditators will deepen their experience and make new inroads to their spiritual awareness.

The mere act of registering for a White Tantric Course sends an intention—a message to the universe—that you’re looking for a change and that you want to cleanse yourself. Some people have very specific intentions for White Tantric Yoga. They might have an intention of getting rid of “X,” to heal “Y” or to understand “Z.” In the alternative, if you have an unpleasant memory, you can bring that thought and find relief at White Tantric Yoga—you don’t have to go through it over and over again.

Wear loose fitting and comfortable white or light-colored clothing. White combines all the colors and enhances the magnetic field. Bring a white cotton head covering that will stay securely on your head (...there will be white head coverings available to purchase at WTY if you forget yours or don’t have one). Wearing a head covering is for your personal growth and upliftment. It also helps keep your positive energy within. Wear shoes that slip on and off easily because White Tantric Yoga is practiced with the feet uncovered.

How To Prepare...
Some Quick Guidelines on

How to Prepare for White Tantric Yoga Chicago
A Daily Practice - Many guests of KYL have already begun to practice a yoga set (kriya*) and/or a meditation in preparation for WTY Chicago. Traditionally, beginning a spiritual practice for 40 days (or more) is significant in many lineages including Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. Having a daily practice for 40 days after WTY Chicago augments the effects of your day of meditation. If you don’t have a daily spiritual practice yet, then today is an awesome day to begin your journey towards WTY Chicago! To choose from 126 yoga sets and 166 meditations, Click Here.

What You Eat - Since the nature of your diet in the weeks prior to WTY impacts how easily your body/mind/spirit will cleanse afterwards we suggest avoiding junk foods (i.e., processed sugar), alcohol, caffeine and meat as much as possible. As Yogi Bhajan said, "One of the fastest ways to change your consciousness is to change your food." The ‘Recipes & Lifestyle’ section of our website has many delicious vegetarian dishes to enjoy in the days prior to WTY. Click Here for the list of recipes.
* A kriya in Kundalini Yoga is a sequence of postures, breath, mudra, eye focus and sound that are integrated together to access a particular state of mind, of well-being and/or of health.

Food For The Gods

Vegetable Soup

Guests of KYL enjoyed this filling soup where the veggies are cooked only briefly (Japanese style). The lemon juice ‘kicks it up a notch.’ It is definitely not your mama’s usual vegetable soup! Enjoy!
Moon Watch

Full Moon - April 6

New Moon - April 21
(White Tantric Yoga in Chicago!)

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
When we go through White Tantric, do we refuse anybody? But you need steel butts to sit through those hours. In Kundalini Yoga you need steel butts, steel determination, and steel self and that has to be white, stainless steel. There’s no other way.
