Celebrate Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday @ KYL

with Bowing Jaap Sahib

Thursday, January 5 - 4:30 am to 7:00 am
4:30 am – Japji Sahib (meditative prayer)
4:55 am – Warm-Ups
5:10 am – Bowing Jaap Sahib (yoga set/kriya)
5:45 am – Aquarian Sadhana mantras
6:55 am – End (approx.)

Come to KYL early Thursday morning to celebrate the birthday of the Sikh saint and warrior, Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Gobind Singh was born in 1666 as Gobind Rai. He exhibited great fearlessness and an elevated consciousness at a very young age.

Jaap Sahib is a prayer written by Guru Gobind Singh when he was just 19 years old. It describes all of the aspects of the Creator. The yoga set/kriya Thursday morning is the practice of bowing rhythmically to the verses of Jaap Sahib (i.e., ‘Bowing Jaap Sahib’). The sound of Jaap Sahib rouses the soul and the higher self of the human being. It is good to recite--or even to simply listen to--when your position is endangered or when you feel weak. It brings grace, greatness and royal courage.

Delicious Yogi Tea will be served. You might bring some light breakfast snacks to share afterwards. There is no charge for this special early morning practice. (However, donations are gratefully accepted!)
Early Morning Sadhana

Sunday, January 8 - 4:15 to 7:00 am

Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL)
410 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 501

Delicious Yogi Tea and Breakfast Snacks afterward!
4:15 am – Japji (meditative prayer)*
4:40 am – Kundalini Yoga Kriya (set of exercises)
5:40 am – Aquarian Sadhana Mantras**
6:45 am – Hukam*** and the Long Time Sunshine Song
7:00 am – Have Some Yogi Tea!

Once each month we offer the experience of Sunday early morning sadhana at KYL. We begin at 4:15 am when the rays of the sun are hitting the earth at a 60 degree angle. Why get up at this time? Because this is the time when all of the great spiritual teachers appear to bless, elevate and transform each one of us.

The doors to the Fine Arts Building (FAB) open at 3:45 am****. Please time your arrival for 4:00 am. We begin sadhana at 4:15 am. The doors to the FAB are locked again at 4:30 am.

* Japji Sahib – A prayer written by Guru Nanak which relates the conscious mind to the soul.

** Yogi Bhajan gave a specific sequence of mantras on June 21, 2992, with instructions to use them for morning sadhana in this particular order: 1) Long Ek Ong Kar, 2) Wah Yantee, Kah Yantee, 3) the Mul Mantra, 4) Sat Siree, Siree Akal, 5) Rakhe Rakhanahaar, 6) Wahe Guru Wahe Jio and 7) the Guru Ram Das chant.

*** A ‘hukam’ is the ‘divine order’ or quote of the day.

**** Use the North-end doors (on the right as you face the building) to enter -  within that group of doors, only the door furthest left will be open.

"Express the Self"
Weekend 2 - January 14-15
(Open to all!)

Rasa, Delight, Politeness, Humility,
Elevation and Graceful Enlightenment!

This year give that special yogi in your life a weekend of meditation that is guaranteed to ‘Express Your Real Self.’

Fees:  Both Days - $300;  Single Day - $160 (call to get this rate).

January 14-15 is the second weekend of our amazing journey of ‘The Stages of Meditation: An Expedition towards Realization’ with the Kundalini Research Institute’s (KRI) Director of Training, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. Gurucharan Singh learned these stages from our teacher and Master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan. Gurucharan then developed the workshops for this very special deep meditation series.

‘Express the Self’ is our journey in January. Come traverse the stages of Rasa, Delight, Politeness, Humility, Elevation, Graceful Enlightenment and finally, ‘Express and Be Your Self.’ Each of these stages systematically confronts your mind’s patterns and limitations, awakens a part of you and develops new skills to clear your way towards realization.

This course is for anyone who wants to enhance the joy of their meditation experience.* Anyone may participate. Meditators from all traditions are invited; there are no pre-requisites. (Chairs are available for those not comfortable sitting on the floor for long periods of time.)

* This is not a yoga course. This is a meditation course. Early morning sadhana is available on Sunday, January 15 for those desiring a group yoga practice prior to the start of ‘The Stages of Meditation.’

Last May a small group of students from the Midwest gathered together in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, for Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. What they didn’t realize at the time was that their gathering was the first of its kind not only in the city of Indianapolis, but, in the entire state of Indiana. They also didn’t realize that with the close proximity of their graduation on December 4th with the ‘change of the age’ on 11.11.11 that they were also the USA’s first class of truly ‘Aquarian Teachers!’

Congratulations to each and every one of them. We applaud their diligence, hard work and growth! And, we delight in watching their continuing journey in becoming ‘consciously conscious of their consciousness!’

Moon Watch

New Moon - December 24

11 Days After - January 4

Full Moon - January 9

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest... energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan

Think of gain, not of loss.
