The Autumnal Equinox
(at 4 am
Celebrate at KYL's Lunch-Time-Class
with Jasdeep Kaur
12:15 to 1:00 pm
Celebrate the turning of the seasons at KYL this Friday from 12:15 to 1:00 pm with Jasdeep Kaur. Experience that once yearly phenomenon--the balance of light and dark in the equal length of day and night--that is known as the Autumnal Equinox.
This time of year is one of lingering in the fullness of
summer’s manifestation even as we prepare to turn inward. Come
to class to create a dynamic balance between the outer and
inner--between the light and the dark. Reflect in the company of
like-minded people on the seeds that you planted last spring.
Assess how you are manifesting them today in your personal fall
harvest. As your energy peaks and flows, finally coming to
balance this fall, some together to send that energy outward
where balance is needed most.

11.11.11 - 49 Days Away!
Welcome the Aquarian Age
Gurucharan Singh Khalsa,
A once-every-2,160-years event!
Friday - 11.11.11
6 to 8:30 PM
$35 adv / $50 door*
Coming soon is what the ancient ones have talked about for millennia — the change of the age — from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age.** And we are privileged to share the arrival of this new age with the Kundalini Research Institute’s (KRI) Director of Training, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D., as he joins us for a very special ‘Stages of Meditation’ workshop at KYL.
Our 11.11.11 evening celebration of ‘the change of the age’ is the prelude to the debut of the new deep meditation series called
‘The Stages of Meditation: An Expedition towards Realization.’ Gurucharan Singh learned these 21 stages directly from his teacher, Yogi Bhajan, and developed the workshops for this special 3-part meditation series.
This ‘expedition towards realization’ consists of three journeys. Each journey lasts one weekend. Each weekend takes you through seven stages of deep meditation. Each stage systematically confronts your mind’s patterns and limitations, awakens a part of you and develops new skills to clear your way towards realization.
So, mark your calendar and plan to join us in Chicago on the evening of 11.11.11 and also to immerse yourself in two days of deep meditation that will follow immediately. Then, save the dates in January and March (below) to complete all 21 stages in this journey of deep meditation with KRI’s Director of Training Gurucharan Singh Khalsa!
Journey 1: Crystallize the Self —
Journey 2: Express the Self —
Journey 3: Transcend the Self — March 17-18 ***
Here for more details.
Click Here to register for the 11.11.11 workshop.
* The Friday Celebration fee is automatically included for those attending ‘The Stages of Meditation’ two-day workshop Nov. 12-13.
** The Piscean Age and the Aquarian Age are both measurable periods of time. Each is an astrological age, i.e., a time period that parallels major changes in the development of the human race. Each astrological age roughly corresponds to the time it takes for the vernal equinox to
'precess' through one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac;
this takes about 2,160 years.
*** KRI is not certifying these three weekends as a Level 3 course.

KRI Director of Training
50 Days Away!
Saturday and Sunday
- 8 am to 6 pm
November 12-13, 2011
January 14-15, 2012
March 17-18, 2012
Be among the first to begin a journey called ‘The Stages of Meditation’ – the meditative path to realization. We begin on November 11, 2011, in Chicago, Illinois, USA with KRI’s Director of Training, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. ‘The
Stages of Meditation’ are grouped into three ‘journeys’ of seven stages each. They are:
Experience & Crystallize the Self (November),
Express and Distill the Self (January) and
Transcend and Sublimate the Self (March).
A message from Gurucharan Singh:
“I spent over 35 years with Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, from his immigration to the USA in 1969 until his passing in 2004. I learned about the three journeys, the stages and the meditations to complete the journeys directly from him and have shared that along with my own experiences from practice and teaching them. The stages provide an indispensable map for deepening and understanding meditation.”
This course is for anyone who wants to enhance the joy of their meditation experience.
Meditators from all traditions are invited! You’ll clear your mind, sharpen your consciousness and strengthen your nervous system.** Whether Level 1, Level 2, teacher, student, relative or friend –
all may participate. So, mark your calendar and be sure to join us!

* This course is not
certified as Level 3 by KRI.
** This is not a yoga course. This is a meditation course. However, early morning sadhana will be available for those desiring yoga practice prior to the start of each day of ‘The Stages of Meditation.’

Yogi Bhajan said that the
“Gong is the sound of creation. All sounds and all words have come from it. It is the nucleus of all words. It is the multiple, projective sound to put you through. It is not a drum or a musical instrument. It is God. It is reinforced vibration. It is like a million strings vibrating at once. Only instrument in which you can create the space vibrations - where you can become weightless and soundless and go through it. We use all tools with only one purpose that a person should come to a state of affirmativity. Life becomes ‘yes’ to you. The word ‘no’ should be eliminated from your vocabulary.”

“Sitting at my desk, listening to 'a conversation with Shakta,' my first thoughts were: how very 'REAL' and comforting she is! How nurturing to my soul is her voice and the teachings ... You explained much that others who teach Kundalini take for granted, such as the aura... lengths of meditation times... etc... You made the kriyas so 'human' and not these exaggerated exercises that must get to 11 minutes or they will be 'null and void.' Such an Excellent teacher! More like a 'new Friend.' My only regret is that I am in another state and not close enough to have the pleasure of experiencing the energy of this woman... Thank you, Shakta.” -- N.K. New Jersey
The Change-Maker Meditation *
Here you’ll learn a powerful yogic tool that can clear unfinished patterns from your past. Make new, more positive habits and eliminate those less-than-positive ones. Plus, emerging research shows that twelve minutes a day of this meditation can increase your memory, re-wire the frontal lobes of the brain and may slow down the aging process.
Here to listen.
* See ‘You are Your Own Teacher: An Accident, Acceptance
& Kirtan Kriya,’ below, for a first-hand account of this meditation’s powerful effect.
Release Subconscious Fears
Fear sometimes becomes part of our subconscious at a very early age. Then as adults we may show this unconscious fear as fear of loss, separation, abandonment or feelings of helplessness. Other times this fear might show itself in feelings of not really being sure of ourselves. Fear engages not only the mind, but the body, too. There are tools to eliminate fear from your life.

world turns upside down,

peace. I know this from personal experience. I'll start by
telling you my story. I am an active, middle aged woman who had
a rollerblading accident and landed on my head. I don't
remember the accident. I do remember waking up in the intensive
care unit at the hospital. I didn't know where I was, why I was
there or even how long I had been there. It turns out that I had
what they called 'moderate brain trauma'.
"I went from
being an intelligent, fit, person to one that couldn't watch TV
because the flickering lights and images freaked out my brain,
couldn't read a book because my eyes wouldn't track on the page
and I couldn't remember what was happening in the story. Moving
my body was slow and pretty limited. No balance.
could have reacted in a number of ways. I could have gotten
deeply depressed. After all I was a single mom who couldn't
drive, get groceries, cook, do laundry, let alone oversee the
kids and get them where they needed to go. My sons were 12 and
15 at the time. I could have been angry or frustrated.
"Instead I chose to experience acceptance. This is what I can do
right now, in this moment. What could I do? I could meditate. I
had signed-up to start Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training at KYL in
Chicago prior to the accident. We were given a meditation to do
for the 40 days before the start of the course. The meditation
is called Kirtan Kriya and uses the syllables Sa Ta Na Ma.
"It didn't matter if I couldn't sit up
in a 'traditional' meditation posture. Reclining on the couch
worked just fine. I kept working with the idea, 'what can I do
right now?' I would try something and if I couldn't do it, I
accepted it for that point in time. I meditated some times more
frequently than once a day. I could do it. I did it a lot!
"It turns out that Kirtan Kriya -- the meditation that I was
diligently practicing since I couldn't do much else except watch
the fish and sleep -- was exactly what my brain needed.
Kirtan Kriya is designed to heal the frontal lobes. My left
frontal lobe was the part of my brain damaged by the accident.
I’m no doctor, but, even I could see how different it looked
from the rest of the brain when I saw the CAT scan when they
took out the stitches and staples.
"I told my brain to
heal itself. I have an obedient brain and it did as it was told.
I gave it the tools to do so -- Kirtan Kriya. Little by little the
things that I could do started outweighing what I couldn't do. I
kept up with the meditation regardless. I started Kundalini Yoga
Teacher Training 7 weeks after the accident. I realized that
falling on my head taught me many of life's biggest
lessons -- including acceptance.
matter how old or young you are. There are always things that
you can and cannot do. The question is really do you accept
where you are right now? Things change with each moment. Start
observing each moment and don't be judgmental. Realize that this
is the way it is right now. This is your chance to start
"You may find some parts of a
meditation or kriya* simple. You may have limitations that make
some parts not physically doable. Visualize your body doing the
meditation or posture even if you can't do it right now. Keep
the breath moving as directed even if you need to take a break
at some point. You will reap the benefits so long as that is
your intention. Listen to your body. You are your own teacher."
*In Kundalini Yoga a ‘kriya’ is a sequence of postures,
breath and sound that are integrated together to allow for
manifestation of a particular state, for example, a clear mind
or a healthy liver.

“The Art & Science of Improving Yourself”
Teacher Training at KYL
Our 10th Level
Weekends Over 8 Months - Oct. 28 to May 6
Taking the personal journey we call ‘Teacher Training’ — this year in particular as we transition from the Piscean Age to the Aquarian Age — is truly a gift to yourself. This course is based on the comprehensive science of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. It is a journey in the art and science of improving yourself based upon excellence and exaltation. Come learn to elevate your own consciousness and you will also develop the skills necessary to teach Kundalini Yoga publicly as a consciousness educator (if you so choose).
At first you might be attracted to Kundalini Yoga for the more
obvious reasons like:
-- increasing your strength and improving your flexibility,
-- reducing your stress and learning to relax,
proper breathing or even
-- for health problems.
But, over time the attraction to this technology increases as
-- a feeling of connection and vastness,
-- a clarity and neutrality of mind,
-- a calmness and
evenness in your life and even
-- fulfillment as a spiritual
We hope you will join us for the incredible experience called
‘Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training.'

* Japji is a
prayer which relates the conscious mind to the soul. It is one
of the daily prayers of the Sikhs. ‘Jap-’ is often translated
as ‘song of’ and ‘-ji’ as ‘the soul.’ As a result, Japji is
called ‘the song of the soul.’
** Gurudakshina is tithing, or, an offering as an expression of

Full Moon - September 12
New Moon - September 27
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
($13) - not on Friday

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
You live by thought. When you stretch your thoughts with wishes and desires, it warps your intuition so you cannot clearly know what is right and what is wrong. Then your decisions are based on advantages and disadvantages, and you do not have clear guidance. Therefore, let this thought replace all of the others: 'I am very, very graceful and God will guide me' Your job will be done, you will be fulfilled, and you will see clearly.
