New Moon Solar Eclipse

Friday, July 1
The month of July begins with a New Moon Solar Eclipse.  Eclipses always open doorways that help expand your consciousness and bring on profound change.  What might be re-oriented in your life with this Friday’s eclipse?  Whatever happens you can be sure of one thing... be ready to change direction and pursue new endeavors.  If you don’t choose on your own... be ready to have change imposed on you by external priorities.  It is unavoidable at this time!
New Adventures Are Calling
Come say ‘farewell’ to
Ram Nam Kaur Muniz

Thursday, July 7
12:15 pm & 6:00 pm
One of our most popular teachers, Ram Nam Kaur Muniz, is on to a new and exciting phase of her life! Ram Nam’s daughter is working for the Peace Corps. in Rwanda, Africa. This fall Ram Nam will travel to Africa to spend time visiting and exploring that continent with her daughter. And, once she returns to the U.S. Ram Nam will spend the winter in Florida, teaching Kundalini Yoga while there and determining where she’d like to live full time. The result is that Ram Nam has made the difficult decision to leave KYL and her regular lunchtime and evening classes on Thursdays.

We deeply appreciate Ram Nam’s dedication to the teachings of Yogi Bhajan over the past three years. Her seva at KYL’s Level 1 courses over the past two years was an enormous gift of time and energy as well. There is no doubt that we will miss her presence each and every Thursday at KYL. (We are happy, however, that she has agreed to substitute teach for our roster of teachers whenever she can!)

Ram Nam, we wish you all the very best--all the happiness, love and peace you can imagine--as you continue on your way. “May the longtime sun shine upon you, all love surround you and the pure light within you guide your way on. Sat Nam.”

2.5 Hours of Meditation

Sunday, July 17 - 4 am
Long Ek Ong Kar (Morning Call)
Once each year Shakta’s daily sadhana*** is 2.5 hours of chanting and meditating on "Long Ek Ong Kar." She begins on her and Hari Dev’s wedding anniversary (July 18) and ends on Yogi Bhajan’s birthday (August 26). This year, because July 18th is a Monday, Shakta thought that you might like to join her and Hari Dev chanting Long Ek Ong Kar on Sunday morning, July 17th.

Schedule
4:00 am – Japji Sahib*
4:20 am – Warm-Ups
4:30 am – Long Ek Ong Kar (Morning Call)
7:00 am – Hukam**
7:15 am – Breakfast Snacks

Long Ek Ong Kar (also called Morning Call) opens the eight chakras (junction points of body and spirit). It was the first (and only) mantra that Yogi Bhajan taught during his first year in the United States. You might think about lighting up the chakras starting with the root / first chakra while chanting each syllable of this mantra.
Mantra: Ek Ong Kar Sat Naam Siri Wha-hay Guru

Meaning of the Mantra: “The creator and all creation are one. This is our true identity. The ecstasy of this wisdom is Great beyond words.”
What Yogi Bhajan said about Long Ek Ong Kar: “Before sunrise, when the channels of energy are most clear, if this mantra is sung in sweet harmony, you will be one with the Lord. This will open your solar plexus, charging the solar center, connecting it with cosmic energy. You will be liberated from the cycles of karma that bind you to the earth. No tongue can tell how bright the light of cosmic energy is, but when you recite this mantra daily, you will have this light within you.”

There is no charge for this early morning sadhana. Delicious Yogi Tea will be served. Bring some breakfast snacks to share afterward!

* Japji Sahib – A prayer written by Guru Nanak which relates the conscious mind to the soul.
** Hukam – The order of the day.
*** Sadhana – A daily spiritual practice.

Moon Watch
CURRENT MOON

New Moon - July 1

11 Days After - July 12

Full Moon - July 15

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.
