KYL's 7th Anniversary Sadhana

7th Anniversary Sadhana
and
Guru Ram Das’ Birthday

Saturday, October 9
When Shakta opened the doors to KYL in October of 2003, the first class she taught was on Guru Ram Das' birthday. Guru Ram Das was the 4th of the Sikh Gurus and Yogi Bhajan's teacher on the astral plane. Was that merely circumstantial, or, was it serendipity? We think it was destiny!

Shakta chanted Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru** by herself for 2.5 hours that morning. Every year since then, we chant 2.5 hours of Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru together at KYL on Guru Ram Das' birthday.

Be sure to make a special effort to join us on Saturday morning, October 9, because Guru Ram Das is known as the Lord of Miracles. When you join with others to praise the realm of Guru Ram Das on his birthday anything stuck in your life can be moved from the impossible to the possible. And, who couldn't use a little of that nowadays?!

Schedule, Saturday, October 9
4:30 am - Doors to Fine Arts Building (FAB) Open
5:00 am - Japji (meditative prayer)
5:25 am - Warm-ups
5:30 am - Doors to FAB Close
5:35 am - Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru (chanting for 2.5 hours)
8:05 am - Hukam*** for the Day followed by Long Time Sunshine Song.

**Effect of the mantra Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru: When life seems stuck, praise the domain of Guru Ram Das, the realm of the heart and of the Neutral Mind where all things become pure. This mantra reaches the realm of miracles. Ask for a miracle and then watch the impossible become possible!
***Hukam-the divine order of the day.
Yogi Bhajan Remembrance Day

Wednesday, October 6

Let no one weep for me after I am gone. That would not please me at all. When a friend receives a robe of honor, then his friends are pleased with his honor.

- Guru Arjan Dev, Siri Guru Granth Sahib
It is on this day that we remember the passing of Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga and the Mahan Tantric. Shakta Kaur remembers that day very well. She was teaching a Kundalini Yoga and Meditation class at a book store in Chicago on the evening that Yogi Bhajan transitioned from the earth plane. She arrived home later that night to receive a phone message from a friend in Canada who relayed the news.

Before leaving the physical plane, Yogi Bhajan requested that his death be a time of celebrating his going home. So, during the 17 days after his death--a traditional time of memorial for Sikhs--and until his Memorial Service in Espanola, New Mexico, the Kundalini Yoga community came together and chanted, prayed, talked and ate meals together.

If you never had the opportunity to be in the physical presence of Yogi Bhajan know that you experience the touch of him as the Master of Kundalini Yoga through the teachings—the kriyas and meditations which he so selflessly gave. As a result, you begin to exemplify the qualities he exemplified and taught us to make our own--dignity, divinity, grace, commitment, courage, kindness, compassion, wisdom and understanding. These are the qualities of a Sensory Human--qualities that are much needed as we make our way through this time of transition from the Piscean Age to the Aquarian Age.

That is the lineage of which you are a part. And, it is on this day that we remember the man--Yogi Bhajan--who brought this technology to us as an inheritance direct from the soul, direct from Infinity, delivered through the Golden Chain, to you.
Healing Power of Triple Gong and Mantra
Friday, October 15
6:30 pm to 7:45 pm

with Shakta, Hari Dev, and Sanjam
($15 in advance / $17 at door)

Join us for our popular monthly sessions of gong and mantra.  As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but three beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs. Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!

After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

Join us for the deep vibrational healing of gong and mantra on Friday - Click Here to register.

KYL was pleased and honored to participate in the Yoga Aid fundraiser held on Sunday, September 19. On that day, from 8 am to 12 noon, fifty yogis from all over the city and suburbs converged on the 10th floor of KYL's home--the Fine Arts Building--to practice 108 'Sun Salutations' together.

Shakta Kaur was one of the yogis chosen to lead those gathered through their 'Sun Salutations.' She had the assistance of KYL teachers Hari Atma Kaur Miller and Namgeet Kaur Bialek as 'models.' (Shakta says, 'thank you again,' to both of them!) And, Hari Dev Singh helped close the event with an incredibly soothing gong relaxation.

Chicago's fundraiser for Yoga Aid also featured live music, kirtan and visiting with many new and old yoga friends. It was both inspiring and humbling to see yogis from so many different lineages gathering together to serve, connect and help.

Yoga Aid is an Australian non-profit organization dedicated to helping underserved children through the practice of yoga. Since 2007 people from around the world in 9 countries have participated in Yoga Aid Challenges raising over $650,000 USD for children in need (www.YogaAid.com).

We look forward to seeing you at next year's Chicago Yoga Aid fundraiser!

October Teacher Training – Top 5 Reasons!
Chicago - KY Teacher Training at KYL

The Aquarian Teacher

October 2010 to May 2011

Top Five Reasons to take Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training:

5) receive a direct, internal experience of yoga and meditation,
4) orient your mind toward its proper role as your ‘servant,’
3) stop the repetition of past errors and patterns,
2) invoke your intuition and
1) make your life easier!

Why wait for something ‘out there’ to happen that will make your life easier? Wouldn’t it be a wonderful discovery to learn that you already have ‘within’ what you need for a life of ease, joy and abundance?

The Aquarian Teacher Training program is the KRI Level One Certification program in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. In this course you learn the fundamental principles and practices of Kundalini Yoga. You learn to develop the skills to master your own life. And, once you have completed all of the coursework, you will be certified to instruct others in Kundalini kriyas and meditations if you choose to do so.

AQUARIAN Why is this course called the ‘Aquarian’ Teacher Training program? Because, in the words of Yogi Bhajan, ‘The Age of Aquarius is upon us where we feel it, know it, understand it, or not. The past is going to be obsolete and teachers of the Age of Aquarius are going to help humanity. How to grow, to glow. How to serve, to be.“ But, before you can serve others you must...

FULFILL YOURSELF The first student you have is yourself. Kundalini Yoga is the science of how to fulfill yourself in the experience of being human. Becoming conscious of your own consciousness is the first step. The second step is to serve others. Seeing the growth of a spiritual community around you and the miracle of lives transformed by this sacred science is most inspiring!

SACRED SCIENCE Kundalini Yoga is the technology of human consciousness. It is a sacred science that works on the chakras, the arcline and the aura. It works directly on energy. Either you are above the energy and ride it or you go below the energy and it rides you. This is where ‘self-leadership’ comes in. You learn to ride your own energy, to experience it, to remain neutral and act--rather than react-- in a given situation. It is a sacred science because through its study your own sacredness is awakened.

So, join us beginning on the last weekend in October for ten weekends over eight months. You’ll make your life easier while learning to be in harmony with yourself and others. Your self-mastery awaits!  Click these links for the online brochure or registration form.
Journey to India with KYL
Visit India – Change Your Life!

Join Shakta Kaur and Hari Dev Singh on this magnificent journey to India!

Feb. 14–28, 2011
(optional extension to March 2)
"A yatra is a journey on earth to one's isht, one's higher self, one's altar, so destiny may not be altered and one can travel to the destiny. Walk on land with one's feet where all the great men's feet have already walked. It is a self-purification." - Yogi Bhajan
FOR ALL SPIRITUAL SEEKERS, TRAVEL TO INDIA HAS A SPECIAL APPEAL. The very land is steeped in spirituality, where many ancient practices were developed and perfected over 5,000 years ago. Simply walking the land can leave a profound and lasting imprint on your soul. To transform your life sometimes requires a journey which will change the way you view yourself and the world.

This is the third tour to India that Shakta and Hari Dev have led with the guidance of tour operator Deepak Singh of Spiritual Journeys. While maintaining all the comforts of home you will have the profound experience of India; absorbing the rich spiritual traditions while enjoying safe food, excellent lodging and the guidance of experienced staff.

Highlights of our tour include:
• Participating in the 5-day Punarnava conference “Ayurveda and Yoga: Where Science Meets Consciousness” held in Rishikesh (the yoga capital of the world);
• Visiting the sacred Golden Temple in Amritsar;
• Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra on a beautiful sunrise tour;
• Washing away your karmas in the Mother River Ganges;
• Visiting Old and New Delhi;
• Walking the holy ground where Lord Buddha spoke his first sermon after 'awakening' (optional extension tour to Sarnath/Varanasi).

The BBC has listed the Golden Temple and Taj Mahal as two of the top ten sites to visit in the world. The basic tour fee of $1,935 (until January 15) includes the conference, comfortable lodging, sacred ceremonies, breakfast daily and English-speaking guides throughout the trip (land only – airfare to and from India is approximately $1,300 additional). Besides visiting the great religious and cultural sites, and walking in the footsteps of the Masters, our tour also provides time to “shop with Shakta” in the bazaars (an experience in and of itself!) and partake in local customs and ceremonies.  The optional extension tour is $400 additional.  For more information click here.

Moon Watch
CURRENT MOON

New Moon -  October 7

11 Days After - October 18

Full Moon - October 22

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
"
Be the tidal wave of greatness and devotion. Live in the consciousness of Guru Ram Das. Do a strong and consistent sadhana; move from karma into dharma. Cut and polish your path into pure steel from which, no matter what happens, your true reality consistently and positively shines.
"
