Summer Solstice Weekend
Friday to Sunday Events - June 18-21
Summer solstice is the time of year when life, energy and the sun are at their height. Come celebrate the annual shift into summer and outdoors at this, the brightest moment of the year, at any one of KYL’s weekend classes.  And, be ready for an absolutely sublime Friday evening ‘gong and mantra’ experience.

Friday, June 18
12:15-1:00 pm - Kundalini Yoga Class - Suite 514.
6:30 to 7:45 pm - Healing Power of Double Gong and Mantra - 10th Floor - Register
This Friday is the launch of ‘Summer Solstice’ weekend at KYL, a time when meditation is especially effective and the effects of the gong are heightened exponentially. So, bring a friend and join us Friday night for one of our popular monthly sessions of ‘the healing power of gong and mantra!’ Hari Dev Singh will be joined by Sat Sandesh Kaur, who teaches KYL’s Monday and Thursday lunch time Kundalini Yoga classes.

As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but two beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs. Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!

After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

Join us for the deep vibrational healing of double gong and mantra on Friday - Click Here to register.

Saturday, June 19
10:30-Noon - Kundalini Yoga Class with Amarbir Kaur - Suite 514.

Sunday, June 20 - Father's Day
10:30-Noon - Kundalini Yoga Class with Hari Dev - Suite 501 (potluck following class).

Monday, June 21 - Solstice Day
12:15-Noon - Kundalini Yoga Class with Sat Sandesh Kaur - Suite 514.
6:00-7:00 pm - Kundalini Yoga Class with Atma Hari Kaur - Suite 514.
6:00-7:00 pm - Hatha Yoga Class with Jennifer Rzab - Suite 501.

Summer Solstice is a celebration of the longest day of the year and the beginning of summer. It has been a grand tribal gathering event since ancient times. To ancient peoples this was the time of the first harvest usually consisting of herbs planted during the spring equinox. These first gifts of the land denote both the importance of the harvest and the cycle of growth to the body, mind and soul. Life and energy are at its height during the Summer Solstice. It is also seen as a primary gateway for manifestation. What were the dreams, thoughts and desires that you planted in the spring? What is it that you want to manifest in the next few months?

Come to any one of our three classes on Monday, June 21, to reflect upon what is truly important as you move into this new season discarding that which no longer serves you. Enjoy the time of light and life that is called the Summer Solstice Monday at KYL!
Happy Father's Day
Father’s Day Celebration
Sunday, June 20

with Hari Dev Singh
10:30 am to 12 noon
(and a delicious vegetarian potluck afterwards)
Come to KYL on Father’s Day this Sunday for an invigorating class with Hari Dev Singh! No matter what your relationship with your father—living or deceased—taking time to reflect upon him and his life on this day is important for you. If your father is alive you can wish him the gift of health and longevity. If your father is deceased you can wish him the gift of peace for his soul.

If your relationship with your father needs a bit of repair, you can infuse some harmony, burn some karma and help release bad feelings... on both sides! In return you will receive grace for honoring the man that bestowed the gift of life to you.

Come touch your own divinity as we use Kundalini Yoga, meditation, chanting and the gong this Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day. As always, Sunday's class is followed by our community potluck - bring a vegetarian dish and enjoy the community spirit of like-minded souls at KYL.

Gahl Sasson Returns to KYL
Events for "Gahl Weekend" at KYL

Thursday, August 12 to Saturday, August 14

Gahl Sasson is one of KYL’s most popular visiting teachers. “Gahl” means “a wave,” and for him, everything is a form of frequency, a vibration. He is a spiritual teacher who has earned a wide and enthusiastic following across the globe. He teaches ongoing workshops on Kabbalah, Mythology, and Astrology in Europe, Israel, Turkey, Mexico, and in dozens of cities across the United States.  Read more about Gahl.

He is the author of A Wish Can Change Your Life: How to Use the Ancient Wisdom of Kabbalah to Make Your Dreams Come True, which was published by Simon and Schuster in 2003. The book was endorsed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and is now in its fifth printing. A Wish Can Change Your Life has been translated into 7 languages to date.  His latest book is Cosmic Navigator which combines the ageless insights of Astrology with the deeper archetypal wisdom of Kabbalah.  It affords readers the thrilling opportunity to learn why they are the way they are, and how each of us might use the potent tools supplied by these spiritual traditions to create purpose, serenity, and a life exactly as we’d like it.

Sasson teaches Kabbalah, mythology, and astrology at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, Tel Aviv University in Israel, the Learning Annex nationwide and at various yoga and spiritual centers all over the world. His home base is the Golden Bridge Yoga Center in Los Angeles, which is the largest yoga center in the world.

Come explore how to:

  • Honor the polarities of the male and female energies;
  • Recognize and create Authentic Relationships in each area of your life; and
  • Cultivate personal practices that develop your capacity for Authentic Relationships.

Each day you will study with the Master--Yogi Bhajan--in a video class and meditation. In addition, you will work individually and in groups, exploring the key concepts and ideas in Authentic Relationships. You will experience kriyas* and meditations as well as other processes to recognize how your personal life is affected both by Authentic Relationships and by relationships with a false core.

Paiste Symphonic Gongs

Paiste Gongs Available For Sale at KYL.

28"   30"   32"

The gong is the sound of creation, and those sounds perfectly match the energetic meridians of the human body.  This is an under-utilized 'sound therapy' that turns off the stressors in the body/mind, releases blocks, and brings forth the relaxation response.

Paiste Symphonic Gongs have a slightly raised surface with a harmonic and universal sound structure. The fundamental note of the gong is balanced with the instrument's complex overtones. Your mind has no defense to the gong after 90 seconds.

Call to arrange a private showing and testing of the gongs at KYL (312) 922-4699.

Paying It Forward

by Shakta Kaur

“Sunia Sidh Peer Sur Naath” -- Japji, Pauri 8

‘By hearing God’s Name the mortal becomes a perfect person, religious guide, spiritual hero and a great yogi.’
These words are from Japji*, a meditative prayer, chanted by Kundalini yogis worldwide during the early morning hours. And these words were the inspiration behind the creation of a special scholarship fund—the Devi Scholarship—available to applicants of Chicago’s Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL) 220-hour Yoga Alliance (YA) registered Teacher Training course.

These words took hold in the soul of one of our first graduates. His response to the stirring in his soul was to begin a scholarship fund with personal funds so that whoever wanted to take the incredible journey called Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training as taught by Yogi Bhajan® could do so regardless of financial need. He named the fund after his mother, Devi Kaur, because it was she who urged him to take his first Kundalini Yoga class. It was his way of paying back for all that he had received from the course—gurudakshina** of another sort.

Full Moon - June 26

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
Revolve your life around summer and winter solstice and everything will be taken care of.
