Winter Solstice Weekend Schedule
Join with all the talented teachers at KYL to celebrate the time when darkness rules—Winter Solstice! This is the time of year the ancients considered the ‘gateway to God.’ The gods of the ancient Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks were all born at this, the darkest time of the year, to bring light.

Darkness gives us time to pause, to go within, to recognize the divinity we carry inside and to continue to bring it forward in our day-to-day lives. To see and recognize that one light, the light of consciousness, which is manifesting and pulsating through all of creation, is the goal of life. Expand beyond your imaginings with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation especially designed to illuminate the divine light within!

with Shakta Kaur, Sanjam Singh, & Hari Dev Singh

Friday, December 18
6:30 pm to 7:45 pm
($15 in advance)

Join us on Friday night, December 18 (and Jan. 22), for our monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra.’  Each month 30+ beautiful souls gather at KYL to celebrate this once-per-month experience that was recently described as ‘exquisite.’

We begin each ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra’ evening with light Kundalini Yoga (suitable for anyone) and then move into deep relaxation with not one, not two, but three Paiste symphonic gongs.  (Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!)  After the gong we use primal sounds (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration.  We tune into a particular combination of sounds in mantra to experience a different level of consciousness.

Come heal yourself and others at KYL’s ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra.’  Click here to register.
Clarity!  What a gift.

An Experience of Pure Consciousness
by Ram Nam Kaur
 Journal Entry December 15, 2009:

"Sat Nam and Wahe Guru! What an incredible weekend experience with this year’s teachers in training at KYL. Shakta taught the Mind and Meditation weekend and filled it with a sampling of many different Kundalini meditation practices. Even as an assistant I was affected profoundly by the weekend and in particular by one experience that I will share.

The "kriya for early morning sadhana" was straight out of the Level 1 manual. I later learned that it was a kriya for lungs, magnetic field and deep meditation (pp. 366-367). I could feel my arms, shoulders, and spine opening up and the energy moving... but the greatest effect came at the end during deep relaxation.

I began to 'see' a rather large oval shaped orb pulsing with blue and white light. It filled most of my chest cavity. It looked like atomic energy moving around inside of me. I then recognized that others in the room had the same orb of bluish white light floating in their heart centers, as well. The next thing I knew, all of us in the room were enclosed in one large lattice of bluish-white beams of pulsing energy. It looked almost like a geodesic dome encompassing us all. It was so peaceful. It was so natural.

I now realize that I was seeing our group energy (or consciousness); how we were all connected, covered and protected by that energy field. It was beautiful and profound. I feel blessed that I was given the gift of witnessing this flow of energy made visible through my practice of Kundalini Yoga. Thank you, Shakta and thank you, Yogiji. Peace to all, life to all, love to all."     -- Ram Nam Kaur
Ram Nam teaches Kundalini Yoga at KYL on Thursday evenings at 6 pm.  She is also teaching on Monday evening, December 21, Winter Solstice class at 6 pm.  She will then lead the free community 'solstice' meditation on Monday at 7:15 pm.

Winter Solstice Intentions

All Weekend Long

Dec. 18 through Dec. 21
Use this moment in the quiet cycle of life—winter—to deepen your intentions. And, when you come to KYL for class between Dec. 18 and Dec. 21 bring your written intention with you.

An intention is different than a goal. An intention allows the Infinite to manifest for you in the way it will best serve your soul. A goal tends to be colored by the outcome your ego most desires – whether it is for our highest good or not. With an intention, anything that does not serve your soul will go—material things, personalities and identities, just to name a few.

What is it that the small voice of your soul reveals in your heart that will make the coming year alive, meaningful and fulfilled for you? Write down your intention in the manner below. Shortly after the Winter Solstice Hari Dev Singh and Shakta Kaur will gather them all together and burn them to release before the Infinite all that is possible for you.

Begin by writing …
1) What you want to leave behind in 2009,
2) What you want to bring forward for you personally in 2010, and
3) What you want to bring forward for the world in 2010.

Bring your written intention to KYL, drop it in our special bowl and know that your intentions will manifest.

You will gain the skills to prevent judgments, fears or circumstances from obstructing your view of the true identity of everyone in your life - as ‘Sat Nam.’  Penetrating through illusions and always relating to the true Essence—the Oneness of all—in your relationships is the ultimate goal.

Come explore how to:
  • Create and maintain Soul-based relationships;
  • Honor the polarities of the male and female energies;
  • Recognize and create Authentic Relationships in each area of your life; and
  • Cultivate personal practices that develop your capacity for Authentic Relationships.

Each day you will study with the Master--Yogi Bhajan--in a video class and meditation. In addition, you will work individually and in groups, exploring the key concepts and ideas in Authentic Relationships. You will experience kriyas* and meditations as well as other processes to recognize how your personal life is affected both by Authentic Relationships and by relationships with a false core.

This is a 60+ hour course; one of five Level 2 modules. Fifty hours are spent in the classroom with 12 hours of home-study to be completed 90 days after the course concludes.

Your Faculty:

Lead Trainer KRI Director of Training Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D.  We are graced with the return of Gurucharan Singh to Chicago for ‘Authentic Relationships.’ Gurucharan is an expert in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®, and has been the interpreter and compiler of his teachings since 1969. He serves as the International Director of Teacher Training for the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI), which he co-founded in 1972.
Level 2 Trainer GuruMeher Singh Khalsa serves as the Director of Training at Yogi Bhajan’s original yoga studio, Yoga West, in Los Angeles. GuruMeher has over 25 years experience teaching Kundalini Yoga and Meditation. He is a respected life coach who helps others via yoga, meditation and personal mentoring to accelerate growth, remove obstacles and increase their happiness.

*In Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® a kriya is a sequence of postures, breath and sound that are integrated together to manifest a particular state. When you practice a Kundalini Yoga kriya the result of its repetition is access to a particular, predictable and stable state—one facet of your awareness.

Celebrate the Winter Solstice!

Sunday, Dec. 20 – 1:00 pm to 1:31 pm
with Shakta Kaur

Monday, Dec. 21 – 7:15 pm to 7:46 pm
with Ram Nam Kaur
Join us on Sunday afternoon and again on Monday evening for a 31-minute meditation especially designed to bring your focus within during the northern hemisphere’s coziest and darkest time of year. Meditating for 31-minutes clears all 31 elements from the manifest to the unmanifest beginning with earth, water, fire, air and ether.

By focusing inside and clearing all of the elements from the finite to the Infinite we are better able to synchronize ourselves so that we can intuitively coordinate our every action with the unmanifest Infinity. In this way we become nothing but the perfect manifestation of what is.

Experience the presence of consciousness on Sunday and Monday during these special 31-minute meditations. There is no charge for this event.

Moon Watch

New Moon - December 16

11 Days After - December 27

Full Moon - December 31

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.
