Yogi Bhajan Remembrance Day
Tuesday - October 6

"Let no one weep for me after I am gone. That would not please me at all. When a friend receives a robe of honor, then his friends are pleased with his honor."

Guru Arjan Dev, Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 923
It is on this day that we remember the passing of Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga and the Mahan Tantric. Shakta remembers that day well. She was teaching a Kundalini Yoga class at Transitions Book Place in Chicago the evening that Yogi Bhajan transitioned from the earth plane. She arrived home and received a phone message from a friend in Canada who relayed the news.

Before leaving the physical plane, Yogi Bhajan requested that his death be a time of celebrating his going home. So, during the 17 days after his death (a traditional time of memorial for Sikhs) and until his Memorial Service we came together to chant, pray, talk, serve food to each other and eat together.

Please don’t ever think that you’re missing something because you didn’t have the opportunity to sit at his feet. You experience the touch of the Master through his teachings—through the kriyas and meditations he so selflessly gave—in each and every one of your visits to KYL. You imbibe the qualities he so gracefully exhibited and taught us to make our own--dignity, divinity, grace, commitment, courage, kindness, compassion, tolerance, wisdom, and understanding. That is the legacy of which you are a part. And, it is on this day that we remember the man--Yogi Bhajan--that brought this technology to us as an inheritance direct from Infinity, direct from the soul, delivered through the Golden Chain to you.
Guru Ram Das' Birthday Sadhana
Friday, October 9
4 am to 7 am

SPECIAL LOCATION:
Cenacle Retreat Center
513 W. Fullerton Parkway
Chicago, IL 60614
When Shakta opened the doors to KYL in 2003, the first class she taught was on Guru Ram Das’ birthday. (Guru Ram Das was the 4th of the Sikh Gurus and Yogi Bhajan’s teacher on the astral plane.) Was that merely circumstantial, or, was it serendipity? We think it was destiny! And, every year since then, we chant 2.5 hours of Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru on his birthday.

Guru Ram Das is also known as the Lord of Miracles. So, in effect, when you join with others to praise the realm of Guru Ram Das on his birthday anything stuck in your life can be moved from the impossible to the possible.

SPECIAL EARLY MORNING SADHANA (NOT at KYL — at 513 W. Fullerton Pkwy.) The 40 students attending Vitality & Stress invite you to join them in celebration of Guru Ram Das' birthday on Friday, October 9th.

Schedule for Friday, October 9:
4:00 am – Japji (meditative prayer)
4:20 am – Warm-Ups
4:30 am – Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru (chanting for 2.5 hours)*
7:00 am – Hukam, Long Time Sunshine Song

To join us at the Cenacle Retreat Center for this special early morning sadhana celebration please call one of the following telephone numbers for entry directions and pass-code: 312-922-4699, 312-656-8229 or 312-656-8303.

*The effect of the mantra Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru: When life seems stuck, praise the domain of Guru Ram Das, the realm of the heart and of the Neutral Mind where all things become pure. This mantra reaches the realm of miracles. Ask for a miracle and then watch the impossible become possible!
Gurucharan Live Workshop

Wednesday, October 7
6:30 to 8:30 pm
$25 advance/$30 door
We are pleased to announce a special 2-hour evening of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation class with KRI’s Director of Training, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. Gurucharan met Yogi Bhajan in 1969 at a lecture he was giving at the Claremont Colleges in California. Gurucharan was an American-born doctoral student in mathematics at Claremont College. Yogi Bhajan was a Master Yogi and a spiritual teacher who had recently arrived from India. It was definitely an ‘East meets West’ moment! The end result was that Gurucharan Singh worked with Yogi Bhajan for over thirty years teaching hundreds of thousands of people how to live healthy, happy, and fulfilled lives.

Gurucharan studied mathematics and chemistry at Harvey Mudd College and graduate mathematics at Claremont Graduate School. He earned a Masters in counseling at Boston University and later completed his doctorate in psychology. He has done original research on the cognitive and physiological impact of meditation, authored many texts on yoga, designed social programs, and trained counselors in the use of yoga and meditation in the clinical setting. He is the co-author of two books with Yogi Bhajan—“Breathwalk: Breathing Your Way to a Revitalized Body, Mind and Spirit” and “The Mind: It’s Projections and Multiple Facets.”

Seating for this event is limited, so pre-registration is recommended. Click here to register for ‘An Evening with Gurucharan.’

Oneness of Heart

Oneness of Heart
During October at KYL come experience something we call the ‘Oneness of Heart.’ Yoga and meditation often brings you to a feeling of completeness, of wholeness and of truth. This is the connection to ‘all that is’ that yogis have been speaking about for millennia. It is that feeling of connectedness to something larger than our ‘self’ that can provide a touchstone of peace during our busy day-to-day lives. We hope to see you often during the next few weeks to experience the larger sense of ‘Self’ available through ‘Oneness of Heart.’
Healing Power of Triple Gong and Mantra
with Shakta Kaur, Sanjam Singh, & Hari Dev Singh

Friday, October 16
6:30 pm to 7:45 pm
($15 in advance)

Join us on Friday night, October 16 (and Nov. 27, Dec. 18), for our monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra.’  Each month 40+ beautiful souls gather at KYL to celebrate this once-per-month experience that was recently described as ‘exquisite.’ We begin each ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra’ evening with light Kundalini Yoga and then move into deep relaxation with not one, not two, but three Paiste symphonic gongs.  (Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!)  After the gong we use primal sounds (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration.  We tune into a particular combination of sounds in mantra to tune into and achieve a different level of consciousness.

Come heal yourself and others at KYL’s ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra.’  Click here to register.

Shakta Brings Kundalini

Yoga Teacher Training

to Tallahassee
A wonderful article appeared in the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper last Thursday written by staff journalist Kathleen Laufenburg about KYL’s Tallahassee, FL, Teacher Training course. There was great synchronicity in the article coming out on Thursday, Oct. 1st because Abundance Wellness Center—our host venue for the course—celebrated the one-year anniversary of their opening on that very day! Congratulations to them and we hope you enjoy reading about how Tallahassee is preparing for their first Level 1 course in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan.®  Read the details for yourself and then pass along the article to your friends.

What others had to say about their group mentoring experience with Shakta and GuruMeher:

"I have been trying to get my classes going for so long, but just wasn't doing it. I just needed clarity and a little nudge in the right direction. I've made more progress growing my classes in these past few weeks than in the last 6 months. Thank you so much for this very needed support." AK

I would like to thank you so much for this course. It has made me finally give some time to my own business plan. Even though I was already aware of some of the material, doing the homework and listening to all your information and practical advice has finally helped me put it all together!” SH
Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training

3 Courses to Choose From:

Chicago IL     Tallahassee FL     PEI Canada

Why wait for something ‘out there’ to happen that will make your life easier? Wouldn’t it be a wonderful discovery to learn that you already have ‘within’ what you need for a life of ease, joy and abundance?

If you have noticed:

  • that the pace of your life is increasing and you would like to know how to respond optimally to the constant change in your environment.
  • that you could use some guidance on how to overcome some of the obstacles that seem to pop up here and there as you move along your life’s path.
  • that your human machine needs not only physical stability at a time like this, but, it needs mental stability as well.
  • how good you feel after Kundalini Yoga and would like to know more in depth about how this technology affects you, your body, mind and spirit.

Then Teacher Training at KYL is for you!  KYL is offering two Level 1 Teacher Training courses beginning in October. Plus, for the first time, we are offering a third course in 2010 - a residential course - in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Choose a format (see below) depending upon your schedule, your family's needs, and your life style. Any one of our three formats work for yoga students and teachers of all traditions. And, each of them can make your life easier as you learn to bend with the winds of change rather than getting uprooted by the storms.

CURRENT MOON

Full Moon - October 4

New Moon - October 18

(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress of your special projects.

11 Days After New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect. Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon and water the rest of the day.

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
"
Hail Guru Ram Das and heal the world. It is His problem to heal. Your problem is to insert Him into it. You have nothing to worry about. If He doesn’t heal, His name will be spoiled—what’s it to you? Most of the time you do not know what to do, true? There are so many times I do not know what to do. So, I insert Him into it.
"
