Oneness of Heart
Come to KYL during the next eight weeks to experience something we call the ‘Oneness of Heart.’ Yoga and meditation often brings you to a feeling of completeness, of wholeness and of truth. This is the connection to ‘all that is’ that yogis have been speaking about for millennia. It is that feeling of connectedness to something larger than our ‘self’ that can provide a touchstone of peace during our busy day-to-day lives. We hope to see you often during the months of September and October to experience the larger sense of ‘Self’ available through ‘Oneness of Heart.’

Farewell Akal Dev Kaur...

Kundalini Yoga Teacher Akal Dev Kaur (Sarah Humphrey) is making a major life change this month in her move to Portland, Oregon. To celebrate her new life, late last month Akal Dev along with friends and family gathered for a ‘Good-Pie’ party (... complete with an outrageous number of delicious pies!).

Shakta recalled a personal story about Akal Dev handing in her registration to take Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training two years ago. “As she handed me her check and paperwork after class one day, Akal Dev was crying, saying quite emphatically, ‘I need this course. I’m a mess.’ What we came to know was that her compassion was unparalleled and we watched as her confidence grew by leaps and bounds as she progressed through the course.” Akal Dev wasn’t 3/4s of the way through Teacher Training before Shakta heard her say, ‘I can teach forward bends better than that!’ And soon, she was... at KYL! ”

We wish Akal Dev all the best as she journeys to her new home in the Pacific Northwest. May beauty, grace, happiness and prosperity continue to light her way.

We are very happy to welcome Bess Cameron (aka Lakshmi) as KYL’s newest Hatha Yoga teacher. Bess has practiced yoga for over 20 years in the Chicagoland area with a number of well-known instructors including Becky Love, Brunette Eason, Rosalia Holt and Susan Witz. She has studied and practiced at the Sivananda Yoga Center, Temple of Kriya Yoga Temple and the Himalayan Institute. Bess is constantly attending workshops to further her understanding of yoga, breath work and meditation. Bess begins teaching at KYL on Monday, September 14, at 6 pm. Healing Power of Triple Gong and Mantra

Join us on Friday night, September 11 (also October 16), for our monthly session of the ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra.’  This will be a very special Healing Power of Gong and Mantra on the eighth anniversary of the 9/11/01 attack on America. On this evening of remembrance we heal ourselves, the planet and, at the same time, we will send healing energy, protection and kindness to anyone who continues to react from the pain of this day eight years ago.

Each month 40+ beautiful souls gather at KYL to celebrate this once-per-month experience that was recently described as ‘exquisite.’ We begin each ‘Healing Power of Gong and Mantra’ evening with light Kundalini Yoga and then move into deep relaxation with not one, not two, but three Paiste symphonic gongs.  (Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!)  After the gong we use primal sounds (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration.  We tune into a particular combination of sounds in mantra to tune into and achieve a different level of consciousness.

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.
